Suzi Orman is a phony
I'd watched her show yesterday and viewers had written in, outraged over Suzi telling a lady in Florida to put a $30,000 pool on her credit card because there was a fixed rate.

Suzi responded that she too lives in Florida and can empathize and would rather her get a pool than pay air conditioning and other costs...

Another wrote in saying that the fixed rate only goes to the most recent balance, so why didn't Suzi tell the person to not use the card for anything else? The big S-Z said "Well I can't get every little issue into my show!"

:eyes:

Dumb.

1. Everyone makes mistakes. She's not a phony.

Sounds like she may have erred in this instance, although it's hard to tell from your description and I did not see the show. If she did err, it would be the first time I know if.

In any case, labelling her a "phony" is something I strongly disagree with. She helps a lot of people with difficult financial situations.

2. I was channel surfing and I first thought Orman said "Don't do it"
Then as more was said, Orman was defending her decsion to tell the lady to do it, mentioning how she lives there, and so on.

I used to be in debt. Big-time. I do not want to be $30k in debt again. Or ever. The amount of debt people have is a true embarrassment and it hurts, financially. Everybody tells me it's not a good place to be in. Even though the tv commercials say "for everything else, there's ____card" and other things that say it's good. No, it is not good.

Even my parents told me about too much luxuries is not a good thing.

A pool is a luxury. What's wrong with a fan or air conditioning as a compromise? A public pool??

Okay, she made a mistake. A thirty thousand dollar one and that's before the interest. At 4.9%, it's still going to be YEARS before it gets paid off. (minimum payment being something like $300 per month, it'd NEVER be paid off.)

I wish you had seen it. She made a mistake and she's going to lose credibility. She's about saving money and retiring comfortably. Not putting them into debt or making it worse.
