Let me assure you that there is much about my body to criticize and I am criticized for my body. (I am also very, very, very ugly, but that is unrelated in any way to the point, since my extreme ugliness has no health implications other than as a emetic for those who are unfortunate enough to have to look at me - I have the luxury of being on the other side of my eyes.)

On the other hand, my body is not part of an international campaign to induce other people to pursue my physical form at the potential risk to their health. I am not paid to display my poor health and physical unattractiveness as a way of inducing others to be as unhealthy as I am. There is a difference there I think.

If you are thin and also well nourished, it is none of my concern or really my business. If you are this model with a pillow on her back, you don't look all that healthy to me, but, unlike Bill Frist, I don't have a medical degree so I fully and freely admit that I could be wrong. Even if I did have a medical degree, I would not be qualified to make a medical diagnosis based on this picture of the woman walking around in her underwear with a pillow attached to her back, any more than Bill Frist was qualified to make a medical judgement about Terri Schiavo.

I grant that there are some people who are metabolically thin, and you may be such a person, but that's not what the concern is in general. Some people are thin and healthy, but many, many people are thin and unhealthy. The BBC reported some years ago that the British Medical Association has some concern about this issue: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/769290.stm The fashion is dubious and people do die as a result of aspiring to its absurd directives.

43. I'm shaped pretty similarly and I am decidedly NOT malnourished.

I enjoy my food and keep it in me; I take insulin and I have to. I play tennis and am quite healthy and strong.

I resent the implication that she (or I) doesn't eat--in my case, nothing could be futher from the truth. Piling on someone her size is no different than piling on someone like Roseanne Barr's size.

There are women in fashion ads who are definitely unhealthfully skinny but I wouldn't count that model as one of them.

We are who we are. We like what we like. It may not be your taste, but plenty of heterosexual men find it sexy (plenty of men find Queesn Latifah sexy too--and she very much is).
