I remember there was a thread, but I can't seem to find it.

2. I don't like that they |
|
removed the "create mail" button from the toolbar and replaced It with a "read mail" button.
Other than that, It's a good browser.
Having said that, I suspect the firefox fanboys will take great joy In yet again starting another flame thread somewhere here on DU criticizing IE 7 or Microsoft.
How very liberal of them.

6. Until it becomes completely standards compliant, it will never be a good browser. |
|
I should be able to code a page and have Internet Explorer read it the same way that Firefox does rather than have to code it around how shitty IE is.

5. The button arrangement is a bit haphazard. |

With IE6, I was able to compact all the control buttons and the URL window into a single line at the top of the page, making the browser as small as possible. This let me see more of the web pages I was reading; particularly important on the small screen of my tiny Vaio notebook. It now takes a lot of tweaking to get a similar result, and it still takes two lines to get the same functionality.
It was buggy to install using the automatic download service, and refused to work until I downloaded a fresh 'stand-alone' copy and reinstalled it.
It still seems buggy in general, with an annoying tendency to seize-up my PC from time to time. It also crashes the 'FormsParkingWindow' app every time, so that I have to manually end that task before my machine will shut down.
No doubt, all these bugs are rectifiable, but I haven't had time to go digging around Microsoft's Knowledge Base to find the solutions.
I'm also a bit concerned about the browser's security, but that's more of a concern about Windows in general than IE7 in particular. When I want to do secure work (such as online banking or bill-paying) I use Camino on my Mac.

Thourough analysis. I dl'd it to the laptop so we could play with it a bit, but have not decided if we're gonna install it on the desktop yet. I'll run these problems by husband and see what he thinks too..but I'm the one doing most of the surfing. He uses it primarily for music. I didn't seem to have any freeze problems after I dl'd it; but my laptop is slow as molasses anyway, so I may not have noticed a small freeze, since I had to reboot anyway.

8. Too many F'in service packs and updates |
|
To load before downloading IE7. Just download and get over the other stuff. Microsoft makes one work too hard.
