Thanks to all that helped me. But alas it was my unrelenting monitoring of my Dishnet music channels that help me identify this mystery song. I should have posted on DU's Music Appreciation Forum too I guess.

My wife is happy! I love the song too. I can't believe that I have overlooked Chapman for so long.

1. I have one of her CDs

I heard the song "Sand and Water" on an episode of ER a few years ago and I hunted it down. She is very unique and has written some powerful songs. Her husband died of cancer, and the songs on the CD I bought were written around that time (early nineties).

You may be interested to know Chapman recently survived breast cancer and is doing benefit concerts with other artists in that regard.

3. She opened for Fogelberg

She also wrote "This Kiss" (recorded by Faith Hill) and "Lucky Girl".

Her sound is unique and her songs are touching.
