It was a great show, though I did not think it was the best one. The acting was fabulous, and I really loved when, during highly charged emotional scenes, they cut out the sound and just used that drum, simulating the adrenaline rush/heart beat.
I thought the plot (the murder, not her own troubles) was less innovative than other ones that had come before it. I also didn't understand why a missing person (teen at that, could have been a runaway?) went straight to Tennison; I thought it would have been re-directed towards her once there was some evidence of foul play, or suspected foul play.
Some of the scenes were a bit choppy. They needed to take more time with few scenes, especially when questioning Sean and Penny. I thought her own problems were much more interesting than the murder.
I thought the last Prime Suspect, after quite an absence, was much better (the Bosnian war crimes). The first, third and sixth were, imo, the best. :hi:

6. I picked it up in the first ep |

Only because they seemed to be punishing Jane so much, and that would be the worst punishment
Didn't realize until I saw "the making of" piece at the end that the first Prime Suspect ended with Jane enjoying a surprise party for her, and the last one mirrored it, except she skipped the party.

And while the mystery wasn't as strong in this one as in others, I think it was better to have a little less drama in that part of the story so the viewer (and the character herself) wouldn't be overloaded with her father's issues, re-introducing Bill if only for a few scenes, her drinking, etc. How could a person handle all those things plus an intense case? Not very well... But because of who the killer turned out to be, it was a huge blow to Jane. But even with that, I'm so glad the ending was, for her, somewhat hopeful.
I loved this series, I love Helen Mirren. I'm sad to see it go.

12. Yes, I do think it was on purpose |

her problems were ruling her life, not her work anymore. And that error in judgement - that she trusted someone in the case - seemed so unlike her. It was definitely time to go. On to a new phase - a more 'human' and 'humane' one. Her father's death, Bill's murder - broke down a lot of walls.
I found it interesting that this was the first time it involved 'middle class' people. All the others were working class.
Bill wasn't a great poster boy for AA, was he? His speech was slurred, he seemed quite zoned out. :silly:
I wish the Welsh guy would have been in more scenes. I liked him in previous episodes.
I, too, am sad to see it end. I'd prefer that they limited the number of episodes but kept the quality. I've gotten used to it, watching British shows. :hi:
