Haven't flown in a year...what should I know when I get to the airport today? |

Are they going to give my a strip search? (I hope so.)
Should I get there 8 hours in advance?
What has changed since the pre-election day fake terror alert?

1. Don't bring any liquids |
|
That's about it. Of course you're welcome to buy lots of five dollar bottled water once you go past security

four hours in advance
bring your own speculum, latex gloves and flashlight
bone up on lots of bomb and hijack jokes--it helps to break the monotony while waiting in line
wear a red bandana around your head and paint your face with red stripes

5. Just flew two weeks ago. Here's everything you need to know. |
|
1) Check in online.
You can check in online (yourself and your luggage) and avoid all of the airport hassle. Print your ticket(s) on your own printer before leaving home. Just get to the airport about an hour and a half before the flight, hand over your suitcase at the airline counter, and head for the line at your concourse, where you'll be screened before going to the gate.
2) Security. What you need to know:
Liquids - You CAN take liquids (gels, creams, makeup, hairspray, etc) on board, but here's the stickler. No container can be more than 3 ounces, and all containers must fit into a quart-size ziploc plastic bag.
Lighter - you cannot take a cigarette lighter. Best to just take a pack of matches, if you smoke.
Laptop - have your laptop ready to be easily removed from its case, because it will go through the screening machine.
Yourself - you will have to remove shoes and jacket. Wear some kind of shoe that easily slides off and on. Wear a jacket that's easy to remove. Don't carry a bunch of stuff in your pocket...put everything loose in your purse, which will easily go through the screener and which will be more easy to retrieve than a bunch of loose items.
3) Before you fly home:
Try to get online somewhere and repeat #1 above. And make sure that you're ready to go through #2 above, too.
Happy Flying! :D
