2. It always looks like it fell to the earth from orbit.
Give me the old, basted, hot, shiny, nicely baked bird any day. Not that "survived re-entry", blackened greesy mess...

Thank You.

4. Lot's people fry their turkeys with no problems.
There will always be people lacking common sense.

I will be helping someone fry a turkey and we will be nice and safe.

I could tell you about a yankee friend of mine who shot himself in the foot with a nail gun twice.

BTW, I'm a southern-ish redneck my own self. this isn't south-bashing.

I've fried turkey a few times, but I always miss the whole oven, house smelling like roasting turkey thing.

Be safe and enjoy! Are you planning to use Alton Brown's ladder-and-pulley method of turkey insertion?

8. Yes, he shot himself in the foot twice while giving us Texans
the rules of how to use a nail gun.

It really wasn't funny but it was.

11. We tried not to laugh but we just couldn't.
You have to carefull around nail guns he said while he pointed the nail gun loaded, ready to go at his right foot.

Then he shot himself in the foot the first time, looked really surprised and then did it again.

We just lost it.

12. Fried Turkeys are delicious
A delicacy if you will. And yes, every year someone burns down their home because they got the deep fryer too close to the house, but deep fried in Peanut Oil, fried turkeys are mighty fine eating.

20. actually, I think it's supposed to end up being healthy
the hot oil makes a crunchy skin that seals in juices, so the turkey doesn't dry out. It also cooks faster than roasting.

the turkey doesn't absorb much oil if any

but it's an absurdly dangerous cooking method.

21. That might be true
with some meat (it's often done with Asian cooking, but those are bite sized)...I guess I can't see it being healthy with something the size of a turkey, and the amount of time it spends in there.

I'm with you...then again, I don't deep fry anything.
