4. I have to admit I am a big fan of funnel cake
or anything else from the fried dough family zeppoles, churros, beignets...they are all essentially the same but with "fancy" names :P

27. I beleive...
Twinkies may be the only food known to man whose nutritional value may actually be increased by the deep-frying process. Surely all the nasty preservatives are vaporized by the hot oil.

5. I'm sure somebody would.
If TGIFridays can offer green bean "fries", then surely somewhere, there are deep-fried peas!

They even deep fry macaroni & cheese.

6. I actually ate deep-fried mac and cheese

And you know what? It was pretty darned tasty--like breadcrumb topping all the way around. Luckily it was only an hors d'oeuvre-size bite or I could have done some serious damage.

7. Apparently not -- not even the U.S. flag!
Really. You just can't make this stuff up. And no, it wasn't meant to found a chain of Kentucky Fried Old Glory outlets; it was an art project.

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2006/11/17/national/a082637S10.DTL&type=bondage

A museum director in this military town removed an art exhibit featuring several deep-fried American flags.

Art student William Gentry said his piece, "The Fat Is in the Fire," was a commentary on obesity in America. "I deep-fried the flag because I'm concerned about America and about America's health," Gentry said....

The exhibit featured three U.S. flags imprinted with phrases such as "Poor people are obese because they eat poorly" and more than 40 smaller flags fried in peanut oil, egg batter, flour and black pepper.

Egg batter?! What more proof do you need that this alleged "art student" is in fact a dirty filthy al-Qaeda-loving America-hating terraist?! :sarcasm:

What's next, flagducken? :eyes:

15. So true....
Someone mentioned fried pickles....here in the South those are pretty common. I love 'em when the pickles are dill, the batter has some heat (spice) and the dipping sauce in Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing....YUM YUM YUM!

If we can catch, pick it, or grow it, it can be fried.
