Nov. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Former Philadelphia Eagles safety Andre Waters, known as one of professional football's hardest hitters, committed suicide at his home in Tampa, Florida, authorities said. He was 44.
Waters was discovered early today with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to a statement from the Hillsborough County medical examiner. There was no mention in the statement of who found the body.
A toxicology report will be completed in approximately four to six weeks and the autopsy report should be available within six to eight weeks, the medical examiner said.
Waters's death was first confirmed by Fort Valley State University, where he was an assistant coach.
