Holy SHIT! They locked my husband's PayPal account! |
|

Has anyone received this message? What could it mean? This is what Mr. Writer sent me...
PayPal as a regulated financial services company is required under law to assess its customers against certain lists of individuals and entities which have had sanctions imposed against them. PayPal as a financial institution is required to comply with these regulations in multiple jurisdictions where we do business.
Where a potential name match is identified, PayPal's policy is to lock the account and request further identifying documentation. The decision to lock your account has been taken solely by PayPal in line with its compliance policy in regards to the legislation covering financial sanctions.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. To regain access to your account, provide the following documentation within the next seven days:
Does anyone know the number to the ACLU? I'm not kidding. I'm not the activist type but this is terrible.

5. Apparently it isn't a spoof. |
|
He called them and discovered that his name, which is as common as "John Smith" has been placed on a terrorist watch list in England!
He now has to send them a copy of his ID as well as a recent utility bill with his name on it (although the util's are listed on my name.)
WTF!!!

|
or one given in the e-mail?
I apologize in advance if I seem to offend your husband's intellgence. It isn't that at all, but a lot of people do fall for this stuff, as the scammers can be quite clever.

Some scammer is trying to get him to give out credit card information.
Log on to the PayPal account directly, not through that email, and I'll bet you'll find that the account is not locked.

And they're not asking for credit card info. He just needs to let them know that he's in the US and isn't that other guy they're looking for. Good God!
