Going to Santa Fe next week--what should I see/do/places to go?
Am taking a friend who has never been to Santa Fe. Am attending the wedding of my life long best friend from Oklahoma (her 2nd marriage--Santa Fe is where they are getting married).

Anyway, will be getting in a day before the bride and groom, and plan on taking my friend downtown to the Coyote Cafe for starters. We'll have almost an entire day and a half before meeting up with my Gettin' Hitched friends.

So, gimme your best, Loungies! What cool things should we do with our free time in Santa Fe?

Oh..and we will be having dinner at La Fonda after the wedding, courtesy of the newlyweds :D

2. I'd love to see the Georgia O'Keeffe museum.
The Museum of International Folk Art was cool. There was also a tiny museum that had some wonderful Alan Houser pieces. If you have enough time, maybe a ride down the Tuquoise Trail. Boy, I'd love to go back there someday.

7. O'Keefe! Have been meaning to go there!
Have been in Santa Fe several times over the last few years, and always forget the O'Keefe museum.

Thanks! :hi:

For that great suggestion you get one of the pics I took there back in June

Had x-rays last week. Turns out I sprained my left ankle, and just have a nasty contusion on the after all...still a bit swollen below the patella, but am better. Nothing is broken, fractured, or otherwise out of place :woohoo:

Thanks for asking! :loveya:

5. I second the Georgia O'Keefe museum. & the other museums
There are art galleries and such on Canyon Road.

Eat all the wonderful New Mexico style Mexican food you can

If you have time run up to Taos and tour the Pueblo and roam around the town.

OR go up to Colorado (45 minutes or so up the road) and ride the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad, if it is not closed down for the winter.

New Mexico has a very nice tourist bureau website. www.newmexico.org

20. Oh thank you. I love that! We went in October one year and
August for a different trip. That was the vacation of the trains. We did the Cumbres & Toltec from Antonito CO to Chama NM which was awesome, then up to Durango for the Durango-Silverton trip.

IF you go to Taos, I recommend you take the High Road To Taos for one leg of the trip. The highway is nice and faster but the high road is very scenic.

6. the georgia o'keeffe museum is worth a visit
as are the galleries downtown. the institute of american indian arts is fantastic as well.

the catamount bar and grill near the plaza had fantastic margaritas.

if you're coming from a humid climate, make sure to bring lots of lotion. i live in a semi-arid climate and i dried up almost as soon as i stepped out of the car.

have a fun and safe trip, i loved santa fe. :hi:

11. Aha! The Catamount!
Right across the street from the Coyote Cantina on Water St.!

Great suggestion! We can just stroll on over there after going to the Coyote!

For that great suggestion, here is a pic from my trip to Santa Fe in June

18. I like spas :-D
But, don't know if my friend that's going with me does.

It's going to be a fast three days what with the bride-to-be arriving the day after I get there. So, not a lot of time since the rest of the trip will be about her and the wedding.

But, will keep it on my list for next time :-)

For that great suggestion, you get one of my pics of Santa Fe from last June

22. La Fonda is great...
try to go also for breakfast there -- blue corn (pan?) cakes.
Lots of neat shops to wander through right next to that hotel.
The french bakery attached is cute but not very good.
Wander about a bit... the "downtown" area is very small but charming.
