So what do DUers think about Michael "Kramer" Richards racial meltdown?
I was really shocked when I heard about Michael Richards' racial tirade on stage in L.A. If anybody has not seen this yet, here is a YouTube link. He just went nuts. I liked Michael Richards ever since I saw him on ABC's early 80's show "Fridays". He was hilarious in that show and "Seinfeld". This is a real surprise.

I really think his career may seriously go downhill.

1. I haven't seen the video but it sounds like he lost control of himself.
Totally unprofessional. It will affect his career, but perhaps he can pull a Mel Gibson.

5. I'm not sure yet that Mel Gibson has pulled a "Mel Gibson."
Wait until that movie comes out.

6. I'd agree completely but for the fact that, immediately
after the incident there was talk of pulling the movie altogether. But I guess you are right that one never knows. I won't be seeing it; that's a certainty.

3. Richards has always had a darker side.
He's always been a very angry man.

If you've ever watched some of his Fridays sketches you can see that he's not a terribly well adjusted fellow.

This event could be the beginning of a very dark end for Michael Richards.

4. Like the running bit where he was a little kid
playing with toy soldiers in his back yard, and torturing them?

7. Indeed.

Michael Richards life is going to make an excellent movie. I have a feeling the ending isn't going to be very happy.

From the way he looked on Letterman... I just feel like the end might be nearer than people think.

11. I don't know. Just a sense I had.
He looks particularly lost. I think the path out of this darkness could end up being a tragic one.

It's kind of ugly speculating about this sort of thing. I should probably just let it go.

13. I saw him in the mid-80s in a comedy club
Pre-Seinfeld, post-Fridays.

He was unannounced on the bill, as were Michael Keaton and Gabe Kaplan. This was at the Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip on a weeknight.

Richards was last, and by far the funniest of the fifteen or so comedians that were there. He was also totally bizarre, sitting on a stool, telling strange stories, while cutting up a watermelon, and tossing pieces occasionally into the audience.

I wonder if he thought what he was doing in a wierd way was funny, in dealing with this heckler.

Afro-Americans? :wtf:

I'm not at all defending what he did, but that apology via satellite was too soon, and way too long. It was creepy.

16. I disapprove of any story where Paul Rodriguez can receive attention.
Paul, buddy, it's not the 1980s, and there's hardly enough coke in the world to convince anybody that you're funny. Now, get on that slow boat to nowhere with Paul Reiser.

19. I think it was a poor attempt at shock comedy, and a total loss of control.
Still, to use those words that way is inexcusable. They way he flew off the handle at those hecklers was totally unprofessional. Hi apology also seemed half-assed. He's toast.

21. I'm just relieved he's not from the SOUTH
I would hate for another "see, Southerners are all racists" thread to pop up. Interestingly enough however, no one is talking about Californians and their racism right now even though he's from California.
