7. it was!
I'm not a fan of calculating without something to write with because I always doubt my answer and I end up doing it over and over again. Drives me nuts. On this test I had to force myself to not do a problem more than twice since it was timed.

I'm still waiting on my score to hit my email box.

I should have done it faster, I didn't realize that too much time decreased the score until after I took it. I thought the time challenge was to actually finish in the allotted time, not that it would decrease the score.

Goes to show I guess, you can get everything right but if you don't fully read the directions.....:D

50. Self-selecting sample...but IQ tests measure one's ability to take IQ tests, not real smarts
When I was a little bitty four-year-old depressive, I went to the psychologist. He gave me an IQ test, but it was a standard IQ test given to pre-school children that relied heavily on "pre-reading" skills. He failed to take into account that I had been reading for at least a year and was in the middle of Tom Sawyer that summer--when I went to kindergarten, I was reading above sixth grade level. (Their scale only went up to sixth-plus.) So, despite having some problems with the math skill-set and the spatial-relations abilities, I scored extremely high--based on one highly-developed freak ability.

If I take a test that puts more weight on the spatial intelligence portion than on verbal skills, I bomb miserably. I can't visualize how boxes come together or how items should stack. Heck, I can't even match my pots with their lids without trying each lid on each pot. But I can recite Housman from memory.

And I still make $9/hr, because a high IQ score is nothing without organizational skills, energy, and follow-through (the things I'm not so good in).

54. Basically, yeah
If they gave an IQ test with mostly spatial-intelligence problems and logic problems, you'd kick my ass (and that of most people as well). That particular test is weighted toward verbal and math skills. What I score on it (sober) is 40 points lower than what I score on a test that measures only verbal ability, and about 100 points higher than what I score on one that measures only spatial ability. It correlates with my adult Stanford-Binet score, but not with my adult Otis-Lennon score, and nowhere near my childhood WPPSI score.
