Radio_Lady Ellen at her 50th High School Reunion -- October 2006
All in all, this has been an excellent month for us Democrats, and I have found inspiration, comfort and very interesting communications with many of you at the DU throughout this year. We'll be providing just the wine at my daughter and son-in-law's table here in town on 11/23. It's been a long time since I actually made a full Thanksgiving dinner, but I put in my time many years ago -- when our home was the locus for dozens of holiday dinners while we were raising our five kids.
As this group grows larger and larger, it's becoming difficult to remember all of the things we've talked about since I joined the Democratic Underground. Conversations blur with one another and unless you are keeping tabs on people's situations, it's hard to remember every one. But most people here have been helpful and uplifting and funny and sometimes crazy and silly -- and I hope that you've found the same to be true about my responses to you.
If I have inadvertently made any of you either sad or mad, I am asking you to forgive me. The day-to-day routine is sometimes a grind as well know, and it's even true when you retire. My husband and I have had to face several minor physical problems this year, but we have overcome most of them. In 2006, we've had some great vacations, to England, Scotland, New York, and Florida. Also, there have been a few setbacks and even deaths among my friends and acquaintances which have knocked me for a loop. Additionally, our family is now experiencing the waining days of my ex-husband's life -- perhaps you may recall that he was diagnosed on his birthday in March 2006 -- he has metastisized lung cancer and the doctor gave him four to six months to live. My children are mostly impacted by his decline, but I feel it too, since we were in love -- and then married for a total of eleven years.
Otherwise, we are looking forward to going to Chicago to see the King Tut -- Egypt exhibition and Christmas decorations for a few days in early December 2006, a "quickie" holiday right here in Portland, Oregon over the New Year's vacation, Las Vegas in February as a couple, then Hawaii with the family in March 2007. Two other elegant vacations wait, also -- springtime in Europe (four countries this time: Belgium, England, France, Scotland) as well as another family vacation in the scenic southern part of Utah later in October 2007.
I am breathless because the "travel junkie" who I'm married to may even try to squeeze a few more opportunities out of the calendar -- I just never know! Gotta grab my 3-oz.-and-under cosmetics... and just go!
Please take good care of yourselves and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
Wishing you all the very best for the holidays,
Radio_Lady and Grandpa in Oregon
