Anyone here seen "Love, Actually"? |

Its a British film with all the usual suspects- Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson Liam Neeson etc etc. Its a terrible mistake of a film, but its worth watching for a nice little sub-plot involving a fictional president of the USA. the fictional president is portrayed as a womanizing, bullying shithead who comes to meet the prime minister of England (Hugh Grant) and goes about dictating what America needs England to do. In what would surely make Tony Blair blush and cringe, the fictional British prime minister uses a press conference to show his displeasure at american bullying. Grant says something like- "We may be a small country, but we are a proud one," all the while looking at the american president. I'm sure that would have earned a lot of cheers in British theatres, winning back some of the pride Britain no doubt feels it has lost thanks to Blair's poodle-ism. But its sad it's a fictional prime minister who has to do it.

It just had too many subplots, but the scene with the American President was priceless! I won't mention who played him because it's an uncredited cameo. Really, the movie actually moved me, the mighty GOPFighter, to tears of joy. I recommend it. A nice antidote to "Bad Santa" (if ya' know what I mean...).

4. It was better than I'd expected. |

I was especially touched by the Laura Linney character and what happens with her. That part of the film haunts me.

And the part where Grant stands up to the US Pres. was priceless; I couldn't help but smirk wistfully. Yes, it is sad that a fictitional character had to say what everyone in the world is thinking.
PS Kiera Knightley is Hotttt!
