Is there a way to shave with an electric razor...
That gets you clean shaven without all the rug burns on your face?

2. No. It is a physical impossibility.
Electric shavers are the work of Satan.

11. In total agreement.
I have tried several electric shavers and as you say they are the work of Satan and have no place on my face. I paid a few extra bucks for that Gillette Fusion, now that's a nice (albeit expensive) and comfortable shave.

28. I use a Fusion too.
It makes my face feel as smooth as a very smooth thing. I love it.

4. Yes. Let your beard reach 1/4inch in length, then electric razors seem to work.
Of course, for those who like a clean shave, stick with the blade!

12. What kind of razor?
I use a Panasonic with foil screen.
No irritation at all.
Seems to work best before I shower, when my skin is a little oily.
it's a wet/dry, and I can get a little closer shave with soap and water, but sometimes that causes a little bit of rash.

Just got it, and it never really gives me a smooth shave.

20. Wish we'd talked sooner.
Several years ago I used a Braun and it was great.
I had it for a long time, had the battery replaced once, replaced cutter and screen several times, but it finally wore out, and I replaced it.
The new one was crap and didn't shave near as well as my old one.
I talked to a guy who ran a razor repair shop and he said they had gone to a smaller motor and that Brauns were indeed now crap.

My Panasonic isn't quite as good as my old Braun, but I like it better than the current Brauns.
They're pretty inexpensive online and in catalogues if you want to try one.
I think the single blade is better than the double or triple blade model.

26. Awww man that's why I chose Braun too

Back in 91 was the last time I had an electric razor. And even back then they sold for 2-300 bucks. I wondered why they had gone down in price so much - this explains why.

The one in 91 did a great job, as long as you replaced the blades and cleaned it every time you used it.

I can only use my electric (actually it's a little travel Braun that uses two AA batteries) for a touch-up the day after really shaving (with a blade, that is.)

But wouldn't it depend on your type of hair and growth patterns?

Been thinking about trying one.
The Panasonic is OK, but not great.
Don't you have a fairly heavy beard?

have NEVER been able to use a foil razor. must be the shape of my chin or something

but the triple-head razors leave my mug smooth

16. A Norelco shaver user, here too.
My grandmother gave me one for christmas when I was a late teenager. Not that I needed too often back then. I think I'm on my third or fourth since then. No problems. According to the instructions, you're supposed to run the shaver over your mug is small circular motions - clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere; counter-clockwise in the Southern - except Tuesdays. I just run the thing all over until I can't hear the whiskers crackling.

I also have a gyroscopic powered shaver. A few yanks on a cord to get it going. It takes several yanks to clean a mug.

19. Make sure your face is clean and dry
and dust a layer of talc over your face. It always worked for my brother Mike, and he has soft skin and coarse, dark hair.

The same goes for electric razors on women's legs, underarms, and what-have-you. :P Electric razors SUCK. :grr:

24. I get burns only on my neck
(Another Norelco three-header.)

For the neck burns, I use aloe vera lotion.

I don't shave between baseball seasons, though. I let the beard grow and trim it to keep it neat.

27. I'm on my third Braun
I wouldn't use anything else. Closer than a blade without a hint of razor burn. And Williams 'Lectric Shave.

29. I shave with a pair of scissors, about once every two months or so...
...when my beard starts getting crusty and such. I thought about going electric:

...but decided that low tech is better. I wouldn't want to be unable to groom if civilization collapsed, you know?
