2. My S.O. has started watching that on rental CDs
We heard it was good. I figured he would like it though, because he had loved "I, Claudius"

4. Supposedly January 2007
But season two will be it. No season three. THe show costs too much to produce apparently. You can see it though. Quality production.

I was a bit dissapointed after a few episodes though. They seemed to be taking their time following history then they really started jumping forward. They skipped by ten years in the blink of an eye. Ah well. Good television nonetheless.

6. Season 2 will focus on more on Octavian, iirc.
And as far as I know, it still starts in January.

8. I wonder what will happen to Atia?
IIRC, Octavia, at Octavius' request, married Antony. He divorced her at Cleopatra's demand.

7. OH SHIT
I need to watch that. It looks good. Romans/Roman history/anything to do with Romans is my guilty pleasure. If something about the Romans is on the History Channel--I'm there. hehe.

My favorite line of the entire first season! :D

I too am completely hooked on the show -- I like how everyday life is portrayed, including the Roman graffiti.

And, yeah, Pullo is a total hottie. The actor who plays him (whose name I am completely forgetting) started as an interior designer before turning to the stage. He had a good-sized role in the BBC series "At Home With the Braithwaites".

Can't wait for the new season.

12. Like I said before, Cat, I just couldn't get past the first four or five
episodes of the first season. The history and interpretation of Roman culture was just too wonky for me. Although I had to admit, the production design was excellent for the most part.

One of the things that put me off was the scene where Atia was having sex in a huge bed in a great big open salon, in full view of the slaves. The truth is, even the wealthiest and most decadent Romans usually had sex in tiny, windowless cubicles in remote parts of the home. Most Romans were sexual prudes of the first magnitude.

Also, they seemed to be pulling a "Deadwood" by emphasizing the filth of the city. True, much of the city was filthy and disgusting, but places like the Forum and around the major temples were normally kept well swept and mopped, with grafitti and dirt marks frequently erased or painted over. The Forum was the center of the Roman world and a popular tourist attraction. The Romans wanted their visitors to be impressed by a clean, well-tended city. Plus, the Forum would not have been nearly as muddy as depicted in the series, since most of it was paved over.

These may seem like petty gripes, but if they keep me from enjoying the show, then why watch?

:hi:

good points about the forum.

I was even remarking to myself that it couldn't have been that dirty.

16. I never heard of it!
I don't have HBO. I have to hear second-hand accounts of these things to know which DVDs to rent. I just added Rome to my NetFlix Queue.
