I'm having a raging adult tantrum.
Once again it's time for me to register for classes for next semster. Once again, I want to beat someone with a brick-filled sock.

AUGHHH!

EVERYTHING I need to take is full!
Everything!
Even the waitlists.

I just sent out a round of e-mails to professors of classes I need, in which I typed the subject line, "An exercise in groveling".

This happens every fucking time! I hate being a non-trad. student, sometimes. I'm almost a senior and by the time I get to register, the classes are already full.

1. It rather detracts from the overall effect, methinks,
when you label your groveling as such.

Groveling should speak for itself.

2. Doesn't your school give you first dibs on classes
since you are already enrolled in a class?

The college I go to gives active students 2 weeks to pick their classes before anyone else.

3. So fuck it. Don't take the classes. You're smart enough that you don't need
credentials to prove it.

4. Email all profs teaching those sections in the subjects you need.
Surely one of each subject will cave and let you in.

Tell them you'll sit on the floor if you have to. Seriously. Tell them this. That you don't care if you don't have a desk.

I let ten students into a class I taught once--only had 48 seats available. They sat on the floor around me while I lectured.

It turned out being perhaps the best section I ever taught.

Good luck!

5. It worked!
I've been promised spots in two of the classes I wanted, and I'm #1 on the waitlist for the third, so I'll probably get that one as well. I also got a REALLY nice response from one of the professors (who I've had for classes the last two semesters,) saying, among other kind things, that it "truly is a pleasure and an honor to have a student as passionate about public discourse as you seem to be". So now I got into my classes, AND I got a huge compliment from a really tough professor. I'm VERY happy!
:bounce:
