PS In case you don't know me, :hi: my name is bertha katzenengel and I don't give two shits for Jessica Simpson or for celeb "news." I do, however, watch "Studio 60 . . . "

BTW, "swak," long believed to be an acronym standing for "sealed with a kiss," actually means "sealed with a knee." Jus' a li'l trivia for you there.

There are things I miss really badly about Minnesota. But I do like that I rarely have to wear socks here!

:hi: bertha! did you find out about studio 60? I've only watched a bit of one episode and I was impressed, I must admit. I'd heard it wasn't doing too well, but I haven't heard about it being cancelled. What night is it on?

12. Mondays at 10. I think. I get it on Tivo, so I'm not sure what time, but
I'm pretty sure it's on at 10.

And I found out it's been picked up. :woohoo:

13. Cool, thanks. I haven't jumped on the Tivo bandwagon yet
we don't watch that much tv, but I can certainly see it's appeal.

It's kind of a double edged sword, as I see it. I don't watch that much TV now (except for movie rentals), but if we got Tivo, I'd feel compelled to watch more shows. That's been our rationale so far, anyway.

14. Your rationale is the story of my life, so if you're disinclined to get Tivo,
maybe you oughta stick with that disinclination.

I'm to the point where I curse summer because there's nothing on my Tivo.... pretty sad.

15. LOL! Thanks for the advice.
how much does Tivo run these days, anyway? I have no idea.

I tend to spend most of my evenings either reading, sleeping, watching a movie rental, or posting on DU. That's pretty much it. Maybe THAT's "pretty sad"! heheheh. It's all relative, baby! :D

17. Don't know how much. We got ours for $99 through DirecTV (we already
had the service, we didn't have to sign up to get the Tivo). But I don't think they're all that expensive, even though you do have to pay extra to cable or satellite to get the service. I think.

It does have fantastic benefits, though; the best is that once you tell it to record something, then unless the power fails or you run out of disc space*, it'll by-god record it.

* it tells you when it's running out of disc space by telling you it can't record this or that or by dropping shows you didn't save

18. Yeah, I have many friends who have lauded the benefits of Tivo
like I said, I can certainly see its appeal.

we'll see how it goes...maybe one of these days....i dunno.

i'm ambivalent, but more inclined to say "no, thank you." :D

16. As a raving TiVoholic, I have to point out you don't watch more TV, but you
watch BETTER TV. And you never have to miss your favorite shows because of other things you want to do.

20. but I don't watch enough tv to have "favorite shows". That's the whole point.
:D

but I get what you're saying, NYCGirl, about effective tv watching, so to speak.

I love how you describe yourself as a "Tivoholic". LOL. Gawd, what a modern world we live in, eh? We've got addictions for EVERYthing!

28. Well, I TiVo Countdown and The Daily Show every night — those are my
favorites. And I watch Countdown in the morning while I'm getting ready for work. Most of the rest are old movies from TCM...doesn't sound excessive, does it?

Some people love to buy cars, some love to buy antiques, some love to collect books. My guilty pleasures are electronics.

BTW, TiVoholics sometimes hang out here: www.tivocommunity.com. Yes, there's even a board for TiVo people!

26. you know...
There are two possibilities for celeb women like her. Either she really is... worthless... or she knows how to play her cards. IE making stupid comments is an easy way to get her name back into circulation. I can never tell, though potentially that is part of the mystique to the former possibility....
