Favorite type of music?
I'm an alternative/indie/punk rock chick myself... getting more and more into indie-rock.

http://mystical-chickn.livejournal.com/tag/last.fm

The list is exponentially* growing, yes indeed.

My mindset for adding bands to that list is always one of four:

"I know I already like this band." *add*

"That was a very cool song by a band I've never heard (of) before. I wonder if I will like the rest of their stuff?" *add*

"Band X is similar to Band Y, and I like Band Y, so I might like Band X." *add*

"I have never heard (of) this band before, but their description sounds like something I would like." *add*

Surprisingly enough, it's actually VERY very rare that I end up not liking a band in the second through fourth categories. I think there have only been like two that I've disliked.

*thank you to Lewis Black for this word.

3. Good for you, jazz listener!
I think it's like chess . . . so rich and full of variety that you can never get to the end of it. Always new stuff to learn.

16. Exactly. Every time you hear it, you hear something new, some new line.
Jazz is never complete, nor "over-listened."

:hi:

4. 80s New Wave
I'll take an old Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, U2, New Order, REM record over anything made in last 15 years. Well, except for the Pixies because they are the best band ever!

5. I don't have one. I like most music & all genres but one
equally. Jazz I like a little bit less than everything else, unless it's ragtime. Sorry, WIMR!

6. Good music.
I like stuff that ranges through jazz, classical, opera, alternative/indie/punk/rock, electro/drum 'n bass/trip-hop/downbeat, hip-hop/rap, folk, blues, country, and many other genres and subgenres. Whatever my "favourite" is depends on what day it is and what I most feel like listening to.

12. I branch out occasionally, some psyche, alt country, and blusey garage.
And I do like me some power-pop.

About the only music I can't get a grip on is Jazz.

I just don't have the ear for it.

14. Alt-country - check, power-pop, check, blues too...
I get into SOME jazz, but some of it eludes me, too.

18. I've really started to appreciate alt-country and I have learned
that I absolutely love power pop!! I know a lot of the newer (past 10 or 15 years) power pop bands but I'm still learning about bands from the seventies and eighties.

I have become a HUGH! Wilco fan in the past five years and I am slowly checking out more bands when I have the time.

Any suggestions?

19. I'm more of a Son Volt fan than a Wilco fan.
I need to learn more of the older power pop myself. I always need an excuse to buy more music. :D

23. I was begining to think there wouldn't be a "metal" response. Question -
Ever heard of "Arch Enemy?"

What bands are your favorite?

(have we had this conversation before?)

24. Yes, I 've heard Arch Enemy.
They're the ones with the chick cookie monster singer, she's not bad.

My Thrash favorites are Slayer (obviously), Possessed, Celtic Frost, Exodus, pre-Black Metallica, pre-Countdown Megadeth, Dew Scented, Kreator, Destruction, Sodom, Vader, Vio-Lence and Demiricous.

Mostly old 80's stuff but Demiricous and Dew Scented are fairly new.

25. Love Exodus and Slayer.
Testament and Overkill are some of my faves too. Old school Metallica too (they were the shit for a while).

Went to Tampa to see Gigantour last month, with Arch Enemny and Overkill, did a little to much early-day partying, and missed both of them. I'll never live that down. 7 hour trip, roommie's an AE fan, me Overkill moreso, and we missed 'em both. Ugrh! Nobody comes to my neck of the woods. (Although we do have Nickleback coming soon - blech).

I just love music that tries to scratch your face off.

though what that means varies I guess. What once was alternative in now maintstream. I don't know anymore.
