East Coast DUers...Be careful out there! |
|
NWS is talking about freezing rain in some areas, high winds and potential flooding in others. Drive safely if you have to drive at all. Happy Thanksgiving! :hi::beer:

7. Those of us in the Carolinas |
|
broke most of the wind for you. We had some reports of gusts as high as 60 mph. That storm has had time to blow down by now. If any of you are planning to visit the Carolinas over Thanksgiving, bring a boat and some oars. You are gonna need them. Gurgle, gurgle. I feel like a drowned rat right about now.

8. Talk about WEIRD weather. It felt cold enough to snow, but we had tropical rain and winds. |
|
It just kept raining and raining.

9. Weatherdude on WBTW said tonight that it was like |
|
a hurricane but not during hurricane season. To me, that's still a hurricane, especially since they talked about the rotation and the buildup from the Atlantic. The last time I remember weather similar to this, this time of year, was when we had that bad snowstorm back in 2000. Remember that? I remember high winds, pine trees snapping (sounded like shotguns going off) and snow up to my ass after the weatherpeople liars told us to expect 3 to 4 inches max.
They (the weatherpeople) never get it right. My stiff sore popping jaw and my poor smashed knees (slam dancing is not good for the knees in later life) nailed it though. They told me and I told my dentist the other day, some hideous diabolical amount of rain is coming. He laughed it off and told me his hygenist always said the same thing. We just looked at each other when he said that. We knew.

10. I DO remember that. I hadn't seen snow piled that high since I was in Alaska. |
|
It was impossible to drive in. There was a tractor-trailer that jack-knifed on the road from Raeford into Aberdeen in the middle of the night.
Then there was that icestorm in January of 1996.
It was a hurricane basically, just not tropical in origin, and COLD.

The weatherpeople kept saying "gale force winds." I kept saying, "Why don't you just call it a frozen hurricane?" *sure, I laugh now, but then I was shivering and scared.* The power went out for like 4 days and civilization broke down down here in Rockingham. There were gunshots and all kinds of crazy irrational people milling around all hours of the day and night. It just wasn't right. I couldn't believe civilization could just disappear that quickly. Those were both strange storms and strange times.

13. I didn't get my schedule that way I want it yet, but |
|
for next semester, it will be better than this semester. I get to go in an hour later than this time around.
That's what that storm was like to me. It was like a frozen hurricane whirling around and dumping massive amounts of snow and wind down all at the same time. Kinda made me think of the blizzards at Dairy Queen. I felt like I was in that machine during that storm.

16. There's a great book by Henry Beston, called The Outermost House... |
|
It details the author's year-long stay on Cape Cod in the 1920s. His winter experience is particularly interesting to read about.
