4. Hard fleshy clam shaped thing = gizzard |
|
It's the muscular pouch in the bird used to grind food. :)

that comes with the turkey, usually stuffed inside.

12. well you're ahead of me |
|
at least if you made a gravy and threw in the neck you got in more flavor than my stupid-ass interpretation which was that it giblets be gizzards!

10. The parts they normally grind up to make cat food, I think. |
|
Why they leave that crap in there, I'll never know. I might use the heart and liver to cook for my cats, but I ain't eatin' it. That shit ain't happening.

11. now i do, i only considered the gizzard the giblets |
|
i just checked the online dictionary and it says the liver, heart, and gizzard are the giblets
i feel an idiot because for all these beers and years i seperated out the liver as the liver, the heart as the heart, and I thought giblets was southern slang for the gizzard
whenever a recipe called out for giblets, i put in gizzards only, now i know why some of those gravies came out so insipid because i kept out the damn livers for other goodies!
so who knew? probably everyone but me! :-)
