4. thanks
I was moving from worried to irritated to pissed off about you.

It's true, you don't owe people explanations, but it's also true, you did have a number of people worried and concerned.

I do hope you have a wonderful weekend.

8. Thank you.
I was very worried about another DUer who is supposed to be visiting me and was more focused on making sure that he was okay than updating the loungies. I still don't really know the whole story, but he's only a bit worse for wear and I'm quite relieved.

pretty much everyone knows he was/is coming to see you.

Since you were posting, we could guess you weren't in jail, in hospital, in a plane crash...
but we didn't know any of those were not true WRT him.

You both seem like special people, so I hope the best for you both.

 for you

17. Good point. I meant this year. I don't know how that figure it out annually.
It was on Monday this year, so I imagine they have it on Monday every year.

19. FYI
Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest. The harvest season falls earlier in Canada compared to the United States due to the simple fact that Canada is further north. (Most of Canada being further north that is).
The first North American thanksgiving event occurred in Newfoundland in 1578. Martin Frobisher had been trying to find a northern passage to the Orient. He did not succeed but he did establish a settlement in Northern America, known today as Newfoundland. He held a ceremony of 'thanksgiving' though for having survived the journey and the tradition continued on with other settlers. He was later knighted and had an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean in northern Canada named after him - Frobisher Bay.

After many differing dates for thanksgiving January 31st, 1957, Parliament proclaimed...

"A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed ... to be observed on the 2nd Monday in October."

and so , Canadians officially have Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Day
(second Monday
of October)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving

Canada
In Canada, Thanksgiving is a three-day weekend (although some provinces choose to observe a four day weekend, Friday–Monday). While the actual Thanksgiving holiday is on a Monday, Canadians might eat their Thanksgiving meal on any day of that three day weekend. This often means celebrating a meal with one group of relatives on one day, and another meal with a different group of relatives on another day. Although in English Canada Thanksgiving is often celebrated with family, it is also often a time for weekend getaways for couples to observe the autumn leaves, spend one last weekend at the cottage or participate in various outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing and hunting. The holiday is not as significant a family occasion amongst French Canadians, however.

15. Hello to my dearest (and only) groupie!!
:loveya:

As a matter of fact, the first 'Thanksgiving' was celebrated here in Canada. :-)

Yes, we had ours over a month ago. Our harvest is earlier, so naturally the holiday is. I think 2 months is plenty of time to recover from the first batch of turkey. :silly: I couldn't eat it back to back months...all those leftovers...

What are your plans for the big day tomorrow?

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, some guy!!

16. I so special...

I will be spending the day with family. I've lots of brothers and sisters, and BILs / SILs and nieces and nephews. Lots of pleasant conversation, lots of food, lots of football. The Denver Broncos play in the evening (so I'm guessing there are three games this year? - I don't follow football that closely) so we'll be sure to have that game on, since they are the home team.

And a four-day weekend - that's the best part. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

20. Well, think about it this way
I don't have to lavish that attention to anyone else. No_other_groupies! ;-)

Ah, you luck out, 4 days. You don't have a holiday in October, do you? We have one in both months (Rememberance Day was on Nov 11).

I can't help you with football, baseball, hockey or in fact, most national sports. I've only got a couple that I follow, and they aren't mainstream.

Enjoy your feast! :toast:

21. *beaming smile*
yay me - fully-attended-to-groupie! :bounce:

We have Columbus Day, apparently the same day y'all have Thanksgiving, but (since my family isn't Italian, we don't do much celebrating for that day) it doesn't seem like a major holiday here. Banks are closed, Federal offices are closed, most businesses are open.

We have "Remembrance" Day too, on 11-11, only we apparently only remember Veterans, since we call it Veteran's day. :eyes:

:hi: :pals:
