6. Mmmmmmm garlic mashed potatoes.

I won't get any garlic today.
My mom and I are going to my SIL parents house, and her mom is allergic to garlic! Isn't that the saddest thing you've ever heard?

7. Since my parents haven't shared their menu, but do T-day traditionally, I'm assuming:
Edited on Thu Nov-23-06 02:02 PM by eyesroll
Roast turkey with some sort of turkey gravy
Some sort of stuffing
Cranberry sauce (homemade)
Sweet potatoes of some kind (probably with marshmallows, meh)
Green bean casserole
Wine. Dear lord there better be wine.

My dad's a good cook, but my mom isn't an adventurous eater, so we don't get anything too out there on Thanksgiving.

I am bringing (all homemade, from scratch):
Apple, date and walnut rustic tart
Burnt sugar ice cream (<---holy crap did that come out well!)
Pumpkin seed brittle

At some point, I will make Thanksgiving dinner and will banish marshmallows. And add brussels sprouts. I love the damn things, but my dad does not.

8. Ours...
Turkey
Buttermilk mashed potatoes and gravy
Stuffing with cranberries
Spiced cranberry sauce with zinfandel (I posted the recipe on Tuesday night)
Green & wax beans
Lefse
Pumpkin pie (made with pumpkin pecan butter, pumpkin spice eggnog, and heavy cream)

For later:

Leftovers sandwiches (turkey, stuffing patties, cranberry sauce on toasted kaiser rolls)
Warm gingerbread

We're going to get started on Christmas decorating this evening, so the gingerbread sounded nice (we're having a party in two weeks and want to get the decorations taken care of early).

We also have assorted beverages:

Seasonal beers
Mulled cider in the crockpot
Wine
Coffee

20. I always think of how wonderful everything you
make sounds and think "Maybe I should get adventurous!"

Then I think of the look on my daughter, my niece and my nephew's faces when they see it and ask for ketchup. That gets me out of the mood.

for the rare truly resistant sorts, we always have big, steaming bowls of pasta and sauce available.

33. My daughter would eat everything.
She will try anything once. If I've done nothing else properly I've raised her to try things instead of immediately dismissing them.

My niece and nephew refuse everything that's not McDonalds or mac and cheese. If it's not a hot dog or fried in batter (but if it's fish they won't even eat it in a batter) they won't eat it. Nearly impossible to cook for them.

16. We had the traditional dinner, but I also made vegetarian versions for my son.
We had roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, peas, corn pudding, rolls, cranberry sauce and a relish tray. I have two kinds of pie for dessert.

I made a vegetarian stuffing, gravy and veggie lasagna for my son.

Pork loin with figs & port
mashed potatoes made with loads of butter and whipping cream
spinach salad
Barboursville Pinot Grigio
and pumpkin pie for later

We just finished all but the pie. It was really good. The pork loin recipe is Giada DeLaurentiis' -- I highly recommend it.

and a few cookies I baked a couple days ago.

I am such an accomplished chef.

It's a good thing I hate food.

I do love brown and serve rolls. I'm hoping they go on sale tomorrow.

28. All the traditional stuff
But every year we have to make two of the following:

Mashed potatoes: one with onions, one without.

Stuffing: One with giblets, the other without but with walnuts.

Have to keep everyone happy!

29. We had:
Nice sized ham (none of the frills though--no sugar or pineapple)
mashed Potatoes
brown gravy
sweet potatoes
stuffing
french cut green beans
salad

The salad is my late mom's specialty. To describe it, you would probably go 'Yuck!', but my family loves it.

you take lettuce, chop up vegetables (whatever kind you want--I used tomatoes and cukes) a large can of tuna, drained and (this is the potential ick part) miracle whip. Mix well and refrigerate.

Okay, I'm hiding now...:hide:
