Man kills neighbor's horse on his land

By CRAIG KAPITAN
Eagle Staff Writer

Brazos County sheriff's investigators are expected to meet with prosecutors Monday to decide if the fatal shooting of a miniature horse over the weekend by an off-duty policeman constitutes cruelty to animals.

The stallion, which stood 30 1/2 inches tall, was shot once Friday evening by College Station Police Officer Damian Anderson, according to Sheriff's Office reports.

The horse had gotten loose from a residence down the road from the officer's Rosier Road property, Anderson is reported to have told the agency.

"Apparently, it injured some of his other horses," Sheriff Chris Kirk said Sunday of the officer's reasoning for the shooting. "He says that he was protecting his livestock." (continued at link)

4. Um I know I should probably just stay out of this thread, but among other issues
at stake here - I would presume if one shot killed the animal it wasn't particularly cruel. Sounds like it was a fast kill to me.

Now I will back away and read the article.

5. OK sounds like he could have easily caught it and called the owner.
Not much detail in the article. Doubt if a miniature could do too much harm to full sized horses, but it might stir up all kinds of trouble and possible indirectly cause an injury - it does say it was an intact male (stallion) they can be real pains in the ass. Owner probably should have gelded it if it was just a pet.

6. Injured other horses?? I can't believe a 30" miniature horse
is capable of injuring anything larger than a chihuahua! :grr:
