Black friday update: the registers were fucked up, couldn't do returns, and I got yelled at.
We ran out of half the stuff in the ad within fifteen minutes of opening the doors and I got yelled at. We ran out of ads, carts, patience and giveadamn before the sun came up and I got yelled at.

So here's my plan for next year (assuming I'm not doing something that involves less getting yelled at):

1. People who expect to get everything on their list on Black Friday will be institutionalized for their own protection.

2. Free Xanax to the first thousand families through the door.

3. Return policy will be amended to reflect the following: if you show up bright and early on Black Friday to do a return :WTF: we will point at you and laugh. Come back during normal business hours, ideally on another day, idjit.

4. If you call at five am and try to get me to put a sale item on hold for you, I will give the caffinnated masses outside the store your address and let them deal with you.

1. I am so sorry that you got yelled at.
 Personally I think all of those people I saw on tv pushing through the doors at the stores today need a bit of help. Or maybe I am bitter because I can't spend my money on material things. I have something called bills. Anything that's going to be there today is going to be there tomorrow so why bother. Its not worth it pushing anyone down - someone could get really hurt so that's why I stay away.

2. That really sucks Lefty
Dealing with the public under any circumstance is tough, dealing with the variety of person who does this type of shopping is double plus tough.

7. I'd show up earlier than five if I got to taze people who pissed me off.
Shit, I'd do that for free. :D

10. Retail has broken many a fine man and woman's spirits
Ghandi himself probably would have gladly bashed someone over the head with a Playstation 3 after working in retail.

12. At one of my old retail jobs (movie theater)
we actually did keep a tazer upstairs because sometimes drunk people would be very disruptive. We never actually used it, never even pulled it out (the police could learn from us), but we had it nevertheless. But one night we decided to put a big sticker across it that said, "THE MANAGER."

That way, whenever someone asked to see the manager...well you get the idea.

13. yup -- that's black friday.
fortunately i work in a boutique and not a big store.

it's not half as bad -- but it's still all about which customer is going to demand more attention than anyone else -- and not only ruin my day -- but probably three or four customers any where near them.
