2. i had invited 30-40 people over for an open house on XMas one |
|
year and with work etc hadn't had a chance to get the food, Xmas Eve I was all over town trying to find an open grocery store
DH says we'll just buy a bunch of Spam at 7-11 and mold it and stick a feather duster in it's ass and call it turkey
luckily I finally found a store open and it came out fine
one year when I was a teen, my mother and i worked graveyard shifts. her parents in law were coming in from out of town on christmas and she hadn't decorated a bit
Xmas morning, we (in our Nurse's uniforms) climbed a fence at the Christmas tree lot and stole a Christmas tree so we could decorate it that morning b4 the company came

3. no real horror stories, although one Xmas morning my sister awoke to news ... |
|
... that her cat had died later on Xmas eve. Very tough for a 9-10 yr old any time, but especially that day.
:-(

4. just funny ones that become family lore.... |
|
* dishwasher conks out - well, that was every year *FIL decides to take out the whole kitchen floor for re-flooring that year -beams and all! *oven fails to work - one year my brother donated his wild turkey when our family turkey was only half cooked - it was good, but full of buckshot! *sister's care breaks down half way from grad school (there were many of those) and dad has to drive to W. Virginia to get her... * oh, and the drains in the basement would back up - the image of my father heading downstairs with the snake in his hands was pretty much de-riguer....
