I think my husband is high on Vicodin.
I've had friends who've taken it recreationally and they tend to be mellow and out of it. I never have taken it, but he was prescribed some for his lower back problems caused by our recent move. Anyway, he's been organizing the new place for about four hours now. And he can't stop. He keeps on saying how he feels like a new man.

Should I take advantage of this and make a run to Home Depot and buy some paint and say, "Have at it"?

I'm not concerned, but am finding it a bit hilarious right now. It's like he's coked up.

1. It can make you a tad hyper
I can't take it at night, it keeps me awake. I think it's a combination of not being in pain and whatever neurotransmitters are being replenished. :D

4. He's only taken it twice so far.
And today he's a man on a mission. He slept fine last night. But today, he's been going non-stop for the last four hours.

10. It gives me insomnia too
I went about three nights without sleeping the first time I was on it, and ever since I've asked for Percocet instead (kills the pain, no insomnia).

2. I end up completely "nesting" when I take one.
I think you're right, but, if he's on it for pain it might not be a good idea to make that HD run. ;) :hi:

6. My friends who've taken it have totally been mellow.
What's weired is that he's been able to figure out how to hook up our DVD/VCR player, GameCube, and brand new receiver with speakers to our HDTV and cable box. I took one look at the directions and my eyes started to bleed.

"Eyes started to bleed"

I get irritable. Which is probably why I've never gotten addicted on a standing script. I do LOVE to clean while on it. And I don't usually enjoy cleaning. :hi:

3. It makes me
edgy. It kills the pain but I certainly don't feel mellow. I get the same kind of reaction - some weird desire to be busy.

7. That was my only concern.
It's lower back and we went to the ER a few weeks ago because of the pain. The ER Dr. said it couldn't be a slipped disk, but now his PCP is saying something different. I've been telling him to chill, but he's like a tornado right now.

:hi: Had a good T(ofu)rk(e)y day, indeed, I made a Tofurky roast that came out great and some stuffing and taters and gravy. Then this weekend we're going to do it again with friends, or else go to Vancouver with friends, or maybe both. How've you been?

14. Ouch
Take it from one who has done what he is doing...he is so going to regret that! I used to think I was "new" too, when I took pain killers for my back once, but paid dearly after they wore off. I wish him well...hopefully, he won't have that same experience.

18. I love Vicodin
I can really crank up my typing speed on it ... I like to take it when I have huge transcription jobs that need to be done in a hurry. Unfortunately, I have only one left. You wanna share?

I'm a medical transcriptionist, at least until I can figure out a new career because I see this one disappearing rapidly.

23. Legal.
Edited on Sat Nov-25-06 12:57 PM by Blue_In_AK
The woman I work with has a contract with the state, and she has two or three of us independent contractors who take assignments from her. Mostly we transcribe the criminal trials for the public defender clients who are appealing their cases. We also do some federal public defender stuff (usually drug cases) and some private work for individual attorneys. It's really interesting work, and I love it because I get to work at home. I worked 25 years as a legal secretary/paralegal, and started doing transcripts on the side for extra money towards the end of that time, so when I dropped out of the 8-5, it was easy to just do more typing.

And people just keep misbehaving, so I think there's some job security. The technology may change (i.e., the trials are recorded on CDs now, not tapes like we used to have), but people are always going to need a record when they appeal. The Alaska court system doesn't use stenographers.

20. I thought it was just me who had that reaction from Vicodin
As others have said, it makes me want to clean stuff and I normally hate that. I love vicodin also.

I hate pills, but he seemed to be having a good time yesterday. I'm thinking of swiping one just to see how good it works.

22. I was taking Vicodin a couple of weeks ago after some minor surgery and it
didn't do anything for me except stop the pain I was having.

I have heard all of these stories about what this stuff can do...I guess I was a little disappointed!

24. I'm on it right now.
I have a bad hip problem and if I want to get anything done today, I have no choice. It does make me a bit hyper, but "elated" also. I think I feel a little guilty about it. (I was raised Catholic).

Which is why I'm feeling guilty about even thinking about swiping one, since he's seems to be having all the fun.

30. I have a hard time with Vicodin. I take it only if I really, really, really
need it. It makes me sleepy and slightly nauseasted.

Maybe he's so energized because he's pain free?

31. It does make me feel like tackling a lot of projects. Just one tablet in the morning.
I am taking it for a legitimate reason -- back pain -- and can understand someone saying they feel high on it.

It's a narcotic, dude!

32. i prefer vicoprofen...ask for it by name-
vicodin is basically hydrococdone and tylenol...vicoprofen is hydrocodone and ibuprofen. acetaminophen (tylenol) has never really done much for me, pain-reliefwise.
