Does any other restaurant ignite the DU Lounge like the Olive Garden?
We had lunch at Samurai Sam's this afternoon.

I had the steak and veggie bowl over brown rice.

It wasn't "steak" and it was disgusting.

Last time I'll have meat in there...

Now what if I had liked my meal?

sick as a dog and missed a couple days of work in 1998.

Yuck.

32. Well, yeah... they're both owned by the same conglomerate.
Darden owns OG and Red Lobster, plus a few other chains... Smokey Bones, Bahama Breeze, and Seasons 52.

4. I like the Olive Garden! (breadsticks and salad are a cheap yummy lunch)
and free wine samples in the waiting area are not to be dismissed. ever!

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with the Olive Garden. It's not entirely authentic and it's a bit commercial, but it is decent food in a comfortable environment.

(The only flammable restaurant is probably McDonalds or KFC. I dare someone to start a thread about eating KFC in Paris or something. :) )

13. The McDo's in Rome are nice looking and serve expresso
but I didn't try one. It seemed like a waste of time, I was so busy checking out real Italian restaurants, like the one where I had tripe for the first time! It was good if you could get past the rubbery consistency!

18. We like local Italian restaurants, too. Ernesto's, Cafe Allegro, even
Pasta Veloce (which I believe is a chain).

It comes down to -- we don't live to eat; we eat to live.

It's just a different mind set from "gourmet" or "gourmand"!

Thanks for your post.

Although to be fair, the DUers who are actually in junior high/middle school display a lot of maturity.

25. I figure if someone likes a restaurant
power to them. I will stay away from establishments that have social problems that have been pointed out. ie: Cracker Barrel.
But just because it's not "authentic" to me isn't that big a deal. I like Chi Chi's , NOT real mexican food but tasty. to each their own I say. Oh, and I happen to like Olive Garden's salad and breadsticks but the service in the local O.G. is atrocious so we haven't been there in 7 years.

31. Here is a list off the top of my head
Edited on Sat Nov-25-06 11:56 PM by Indy_Dem_Defender
Dennys & Cracker Barrel - These places aren't racist cause they won't wait on black people, They won't wait on anyone period!
Chi-Chi's - If I'm going to buy crappy mexican food I will save money and get Taco Bell.
Applebees - The official restaurant of people who watch the TV Show friends and shop at pottery barn.
Texas Roadhouse - One near me always is over an hour wait, for a freaking franchise restaurant that's a little unreal.
Dominos - Not a restaurant, but just bad corporate pizza I can buy a grocery store brand frozen pizza and it taste better.
Subway - Need to put some meat on their dry bread, If you live by a Jersey Mike's drive on pass the subway.
Starbucks - Personal pet peeve, I'm not going to go into rant about this place, There are 3 locations in a quarter mile area near me.
Hard Rock Cafe & Planet Hollywood & Rain Forest Cafe - Crappy theme restaurants tourist traps
Johnny Rockets - Burgers taste like what I'd imagine roadkill would taste like.
Red Lobster - Chi-Chi's effect only Long John Silver's instead.
Smokey Bones - Worst ribs ever, Truly a Suburban Pit.

on weekends. (Actually, she loves the tips). Food is good too. They have grown up Mac and Cheese now with broiled chicken breast on top. Great and filling meal in a giant bowl.

34. we love small mom and pop restaurants and
we love all kinds of food. Fancy places, and not so fancy places.

But my family often meets at chain restaurants to satisfy everyone. And I have a kid who will eat curry, but prefers Applebees.

To each their own.

36. I don't like Olive Garden because.....
Their bread sticks are way too salty, and for some reason all Italian places think that Italian means "Lots of Tomatoes on Everything".

I happen to be allergic to tomatoes and bell peppers and stuff like that, anything generally referred to as "the nightshade familY", related to deadly nightshade, belladonna. Except potatoes. Allergic to pizza and shellfish. So call me a commie.

I went to an Olive Garden once and emphatically told the waiter "NO TOMATOES".

He was deaf. I sent it back. This also happened at a more expensive place called Romano's Macaroni Grill. Io no capisco. No comprende.

ARRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! :banghead:

======
We also have a chain here called Taco Cabana. Once a customer went in and wanted a free refill on her Coke and the manager wouldn't give her one so she shot the manager. True Story in the big city of Houston. So I call it "Taco de Banos" (taco of bathrooms).
