More and More People Are Sticking Out Their Tongue -- For a Piercing
BOWLING GREEN -- The most popular spot for an earring isn't the ear. Nowadays, it's the tongue. But that's also the riskiest place for a piercing if it isn't done right. News 11 has vital information about the right -- and wrong -- way to do it.

But don't watch the video unless you're really, really brave.

If, for example, seeing needles not just penetrate a tongue -- but go all the way through -- is more than you can handle, don't click on the video link. But if you're considering having your tongue pierced and you want to ensure that it's done properly, go ahead -- click.

2. Did you watch the video? It looks too far back to bother teeth and gums, doesn't it?

that there is no safe placement of a stud.

However, further back it better.

23. Double gross. I had my ears pierced when I was 40 years old --
That's 27 years old.

Those were the last pierces for me, thank you all very much.

5. Never wanted one and I could never understand the fad.
It was so distracting to have someone play with that thing in the middle of a test.

8. Tongue studs make a person sound like they have a speech
impediment. It's a fad I've never understood.

6. dunno if this is true but
a periodontist told me that the surgical steel used in the rods inserted in people's tongues alters the pH of the salivary amylase which eventually erodes the gum tissue so these people may eventually lose their teeth. He'd seen tons of chipped and broken teeth as well.

Yikes.

9. Oral fixation
My son and daughter used to drive me nuts clacking them against their teeth. Then there was the day my son's came loose, and he swallowed it. We all laughed, knowing he had to examine his BMs

10. I've just never understood why a person would want one.
But it sure is nice to see that the Toledo TV stations are providing people with this crucial and vital news during sweeps month.

11. Not a good idea.
Chipped teeth
nerve damage
infections
tongue tears when thing catches on teeth or elsewhere

Plus, it's trendy bullshit. One of those "Look what a rebel I am" moves that just shows what a conformist one is.

14. I had a tow truck guy taking my car to be repaired
and all he did the entire ride was flip his studded tongue around, over and over, in and out.

All I could think of was my dog licking his n..s, except the dog had more class.

21. I can only speak for myself...
But I think piercings tend to be more of an aesthetic choice than a rebellious one.

15. My daughter is a piercer/tattoo artist and she does a lot of them
and apparantly she does them well. Now when she got her navel pierced, I said "OK, I can sort of understand this but if you get your tongue pierced your stuff is out on the street and you can find a new place to live."

She says "Mom? YOu don't usually react like that to anything, why this?"

my answer: "BECAUSE I DIDN'T SPEND 3 GRAND ON YOUR TEETH TO HAVE YOU CHIP THEM UP WITH A METAL BALL, THAT'S WHY!!!!"

She cracked up. Then she said, "I wouldn't do it anyway, for a number of other reasons, but it is nice to know where you draw the line!"

We still laugh about that. She still pokes holes in other people and she did not get her tongue pierced. Although they do make plastic studs, apparantly which do not harm the teeth.

She and I are both very prone to those nasty mouth ulcers when the skin inside our mouths gets broken, so I know that is one reason she would never get any piercings in her mouth, just thought I would emphasize it a little. Since she has to move back in with me for a while, it is a good thing she didn't LOL

24. My daughter pierced one of her ears with two holes, and the other with only one.
Edited on Sat Nov-25-06 10:59 PM by Radio_Lady
PS. She let the second hole close up after about a year. Too much trouble.

My granddaughter, age 8, doesn't "EVER" want her ears pierced. We'll see....

No real inclination toward tongue piercings.

Piercings of any kind look good on women, though.
