when inLaws attack
wow! just wow!

bi-baby, mrs. sniffa, and i went to see mrs. sniffa's famiLy today. since we had our own famiLy turkey day, we going to visit today so that we couLd have Leftovers with her mom, her sister, her oLder brother, his wife, and kid. i'm not a big fan of going to their house since they're insane, but i go, act poLite, etc.today was going to be a speciaL day since it was to be the first time bi-baby and i met our brother-in-Law's wife, and his kid, and he has been after us (mrs. sniffa met him quite a few times aLready, so bi-baby and i) to meet his wife and kid.

anyhow, we show shortLy before dinner was to be served... yet no one besides the mother was home (the sister Lives there but she was out). after finding out from the brother in Law that they're going to be severaL hours Late because they want the kid to have a nap before they Leave, and he wasn't in a napping mood. eh, whatever, so dinner is postponed hours to accomadate them.

the sister eventuaLLy comes home, and aLthough i didn't notice at the time, was very coLd towards me - didn't even acknowLedge me or Look at me. we were watching a movie but she came and changed the channeL to some crappy show... and then proceeded to not watch it. at some point as we're aLL sitting in the Living room i pick up the remote and change the channeL since i seemed to be the onLy person watching tv, and it was a commerciaL. and then it happened.

brat: hey i'm watching that!
me: it didn't seem Like it. besides, it's a commerciaL.
brat: you don't just come in here and change the channeL!!
me: um, you just did that when you came home.
brat: FUCK YOU!!
(she winds up and smacks me with a cataLogue she was reading, then stands up and starts to stomp off to her bedroom)
brat: you don't even Live fucking Live here! you never come, and when you do, aLL you do is bitch!!
inadubiLe! inadubiLe! inadubiLe! i hate you!! LEAVE!!!

i just sat there kinda stunned, as was everyone eLse.

so i stood up, put my coat on and toLd mrs. sniffa, she's free to stay but i'm Leaving. the mother made no attempt to stop us from Leaving, and didn't even fLinch whiLe the tirade was happening.

now, bi-baby and i are home, and ready to hit the vodka on our empty stomachs. weee!!
and i'm never going there again. fuck them.
that was so out of the bLue, and compLeteLy uncaLLed for (not to mention over the top).

39. Oh Gawd Yes They Do
I spent 60 min listening to my drunken brother in law telling me the same 3 things over and over.

My drunken uncle in law (if there is such a thing) is about the same

My drunken father in law went on and on about what to do with thousands of negatives and how he could digitize them and whether a negative was the same thing as a slide and visa versa

and then of course trying to avoid the inevitable political arguments (they're all right wingers except brother in law, who is ?????)

So, avoiding them is good!

13. That's horrible what happened to you!
You handled yourself and the situation exceptionally well. As I like to say, when you find a fool leave a fool. And don't let the stupidity of that person ruin your day. Just be glad that you are out of there and are free to do as you please. :) The other people who knew the person better should have stepped in to try to ameliorate things somehow, but they didn't so don't waste your time thinking about them....

21. avoiding them is a sane decision
we can't control how others behave but we do have the choice to not let them impose, inflect their behavior on us.

I am sorry, sniffa & sister girl. that sucks.

23. I am so sorry for this to happened to you.
I do not get along with my family period, I do not go around them.

The last time I was around my family I had a fight with my sister and brothers over some land. The land had been divided without anyone asking me and I got stuck with the worst part, not that I would ever live there.

Words got said, and if I never see them again that is good enough for me.

Things happen with family, I choose not to be around them as it would make me an unhappy person and I might kill my sister.

I have found a way to be at peace with myself.

Good wishes to you and your family on the Thanksgiving weekend.

24. There are times I wish I had your gumption to get up and leave
Over the years I've learned to avoid certain topics and people when visiting the in-laws.

Your went home without mrs. sniffa? How's she going to get home?

Bottom line for me is mrs wain puts up with my side of the family, I put up with hers. Come to think of it there are a couple on my side of the family we both put up with!

Happy Thanksgiving!

:)

I enjoy reading you.

Hope mrs. sniffa is not too upset with you - bet she wishes she could have left with you. Ah, families. My fil had it right. When he didn't like how someone treated him he just stopped talking to them - for years at a time.

Unless Mrs. Sniffa's mom calls and profusely apologizes...and I mean begs for your forgiveness...hell, no. Don't put yourself through that shit again. That was inexcusible.

If I may, why didn't Mrs. Sniffa speak up on your behalf (or did she)? I wouldn't put up with my loved ones being treated like that, whether by my family or a total stranger. Nor would I stay when you two left.
