If your new furniture is "retro"... |
|
Isn't that old fashioned?
I hate retro furniture, because I was there the first time around. I just redecorated my kitchen and living room. My 25 year-old niece saw it and said "It's cute--like an old fashioned farmhouse". My furniture is country-themed. Her furniture is very 50's, brand new and, I think, "old fashioned". Who's right?

1. I am interested in the economics of the changing styles |

All those beautiful country antiques and shabby chic and cottage style items are starting to fall out of favor in certain areas. So what will happen to the oak tables and the dry sinks and the hoosier cabinets and the pottery and the handwoven baskets and and and? Will they be on the discard pile some day soon? What about Roseville pottery? What about Victorian items? What about those huge empire tables? What about pump organs and victrolas? For that matter, what about the mission and craftsman items that people have paid small fortunes for in the last couple of decades??
As all of those are displaced by atomic style and 70s "harvest" colors and chain lamps and teak and Eames items, what will happen to all the formerly extremely popular stuff? Should we buy low then and put things away for another Victorian or country revival in another fifty years?
This is fascinating.
