How do you like to exercise?
I'm pretty plain. I like to walk in the evenings just before sunset especially in the fall when the air has a little bit of a bite to it. To change it up, I may jog a little.... Also, I like weight-training -- not with gym equipment but with regular old dumbbells.

Holidays tend to throw off my schedule, but I don't mind that much since I get to see family and friends that I don't normally see.... So, what do you like to do? :hi:

96. I love to run and miss it when I can't
Right now all I can do is walk as I am healing from planta fasciitis in the left foot. I had this six years ago and it takes a long time to heal. I tend to overdo running and than pay for it - last year was as stress fracture on the right shin.

I'm thinking about getting a bike.

Of course I haven't been to the gym since I let my membership lapse a couple of years ago.

I was thinking of getting it going again in January.

15. My biggies are fitness walking and strength training...
:hi: Those two things have kept me in great shape! I will sometimes switch to the elliptical machine for cardio if the weather is bad, but I prefer walking so fast it's almost running. (I don't run for anyone unless I'm running away from somebody who's chasing me... :P) I walk like that for 40 minutes six times a week, and I do my strength training at my gym three times a week. And because of all that, I'm a lot stronger than I look. :)

Your walking routine sounds quite intense -- a real workout. When I strength-train, I like to do so slowly so I can feel the burn in my muscles. I'm stronger than I look too. ;)

Not only is it better for my news... but, today, I had a fox cross my path.... flushed deer... I've seen baby groundhogs and bunnies, beautiful scenery, watched the woods come to life and go to sleep again... followed an animal's tracks for the snow, crossed streams... I love it. Even the occasional snake and my one "dry" viper bite doesn't stop me.

39. I mix around stuff. I have a nice elliptical at home...
About 30 cardio and cardio/strength mix DVDs, three strictly strength-training (intermediate to advanced) DVDs, and a couple of stretching programs. I also have at home a weight bench, dumbbells, a barbell, and a jump rope.

At the gym, I only the equipment I don't have at home: treadmill, stepmill, weight machines, stability ball, etc.

I try not to do the same thing two days in a row. It keeps me from getting bored (sometimes I get into a rut, though, and do something like the elliptical three days in a week, but I do try to keep the variety).

When the weather is right for it, I enjoy walking outdoors.

Isometrics have been very helpful for grappling strength. The advantage to doing isometrics and bodyweight exercises is that they can be done anywhere. I was doing them in the hotel room when I was in Michigan for my sister's wedding!

Edited on Sat Nov-25-06 10:52 PM by bikebloke
And it's my car, so commuting, hauling groceries and errands double as exercise. As I shuffle around in the mornings before work, I'll do push ups. Listening to music or watching a film (DVD...I can see myself getting tossed out of a theatre), I'll do leg lifts. The gym scene doesn't appeal to me. I do my exertions in private. That's why I wear a burqa on the bike. :-)

Love to exercise. Go nearly every day if possible.

Probably gained a pound or two, but it will disappear as soon as I'm back in my routine.

73. It's good that you don't let holidays effect your schedule.
Wish I could say the same -- I usually have to play organizer to the big get-togethers.... But, I make up for it by getting back to my schedule as soon as my responsibilities are met. :)

75. 4 days in the gym per week...
and then light activity on the other days.... taking the dog for a long walk, riding my bike. My mother just bought me ice skates today, so I am all about to ice skate on the weekends. I am trying to track down a co-ed or ladies hockey team, but no luck thus far.

76. Best of luck finding that hockey team!
I've never been ice skating, but I did in-line skate some time ago.... The experience was fun, but when I fell I fell HARD!

I'm a gym rat, though.

6 days a week on the iron, 3 on the cardio.

Plus I do a lot of walking, to and from school and all over campus and whatnot.

82. Skateboarding looks fun...
but I have not been able to acquire the needed skills to do it properly. Me = no balance on a skate board. ;) I enjoy sitting on the sidelines watching others do it though....

84. I've been skateboarding since I was 13. (I'm 21 now.)
Edited on Sun Nov-26-06 01:32 AM by primate1
I love it. I used to play hockey when I was a kid (I quit when I was 11 or 12), but I just really hated competitive sports in general. Then one day my friend was like "Hey, I'm gonna go watch my friend Adam skateboard wanna come?" Since that day I've been in love with it. The whole unstructured and uncompetitive nature of it really drew me in, I think. (Sure there are skateboard competitions, but they're far from the basis of it.) You don't have to worry about winning or losing, or coaches telling you what to do. It's just you and your friends having fun.

If it wasn't for that I'd have spent even more time holed up in my room on my computer than I already did (and do, haha).

87. If I know anything about skateboarding...
you don't become as good as you are without having some pretty big wipe outs in the past. I understand that one of the appealing things about skateboarding is the ability to create something completely new and original -- but, sometimes it takes a few bruises to pull of the new move, but the elation you must feel at completing it must be phenomenonal! :) Keep at and keep on having fun!

90. He's my favourite pro to watch. Eccentric as hell when he's not skating, but so damn good.
Edited on Sun Nov-26-06 02:19 AM by primate1
It cuts it out in that clip, but there's a conversation between him and the owner of Alien Workshop skateboards about his part in the video, and Chris (the boss) is telling him that he needs to get on a normal schedule where he knows what day of the week it is, haha. Pretty amusing.

That section right there is my favourite segment of my favourite skateboard video ever. It's what i always watch when I want t really get in the mood to skate.

91. "Geniuses" in any particular field are usually a bit different from the rest.
I guess it's the eccentricity that gives them that added something to put them head and shoulders above the rest. :)

That clip definitely has a good feel about it -- and I liked the music too.

94. The dog walks me.
Every day somewhere between 4-5pm., my dog comes up to me and invites me out for a walk. She is the smartest dog in my whole house, (being that she is the only dog in the house helps). She makes sure that I get out and walk a few blocks each day. She wants me to get out even more but I am a stubborn hippy and yearn for safety and comfort of my sofa all to quickly. Like most dogs...she puts up with this but on occasion when the weather is pleasant her patience wears thin and she cons me into a more vigorous exercise by taking me down to the river where we walk for hours. That's a damn fine dog I got... lucky me huh!

95. I run, a lot...
...well perhaps to some it's not a lot, but with me and my schedule, fitting in 20-30 miles a week is like putting 10 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag. But, I need to run. It's my therapy.

Getting into a running rhythm is therapeutic to me too.
It's when everything gets down to the science of breath, the beat of your steps, and the swing of your step.

99. I know exactly what you mean
During this time of year, I can't trail run every day like I usually do -- it gets dark too early. I can only hit the outside on the weekends. I loathe the treadmill. Yesterday, my run was great... it is indeed therapy.

107. I'm running a half-marathon on the 18th in Seville...
...(I live in Spain), then a full marathon in February. After that, and I have absolutely no idea why, but I'm going to do one of those "ultra" endurance races in May. 102 km, 61 miles. :wtf: am I thinking? We don't get many chances to run trails here in southern Spain, just lots and lots of roads. What kind of music do you listen to when you run?
