Personally, I love getting presents for people at this time of year. |
|
I'm an atheist and Christmas has no religious significance to me at all.
But we celebrate it. And Hanukkah too.
I like THINGS. I admit it. I like my iPod, I like a nice scarf, I like books and games and candles and paintings and sweaters.
What's more I like getting things as presents for people I care about. I actually enjoy picking out something that I know will bring them some happiness.
I don't see what all the griping is about. Christmas is what YOU make it.

I enjoy shopping for the folks who mean something to me. Don't get too excited about the "expected gifts" that sorta come with the territory of life, but that is why we have gift cards. Besides it's the time of year with egg nog and pumpkin pie so life is good!!!

I love wrapping them. I love seeing them underneath the tree. I love to watch people open gifts. :-)

with a gift is part of human nature. Personally, I enjoy making and giving things, especially not around the holiday season-but to each his own.

There is no greater high than seeing the face of someone opening up a surprise that brings them great pleasure.
I get more from giving than the ones getting the gift...

If I am out and see something I know my best friend would love, I get it for her.. She does the same (We have often gotten each other the SAME things  ) If I have extra money and se that one of my kids is broke, I give them money. I haven;t played the "game" for a long time :)

I like getting gifts for people too. I just don't focus on getting them gifts at one certain time of the year, a time when everyone else is shopping, it's crowded and noisy, things are overpriced and artificially rationed so a frenzy is created and there's nowhere to park.
People always go on and on about how it's nice to be good and generous at this time of year - why not be good and generous at ALL times of the year?
I don't give a good goddamn if other people want to celebrate Christmas. Why does anyone care if I choose not to?

12. That's my point: do whatever YOU want to do. |

Some people bemoan how others choose to celebrate, as if they are forced to join in.

We could use an occasional reminder to let people know we love and appreciate them. It's only when it gets blown out of proportion and people go into debt (a couple shopping where I work were discussing their black friday charges while I rang them up- $1400 and it wasn't even breakfast time yet) or resent it all that it becomes something ugly.
