Just saw "Stranger than Fiction." Anyone know what it is about?
Care to tell me?

I'm at a loss. I don't know whether I take it straight or allegorically. On one level, you could say it is a sweet love story about a guy who finds love and the meaning of life in fresh baked cookies. On another level, you could say it is a metaphor about our insane lives or...what??

Help me out here!

1. my impression from the previews is that it is a mindless
holiday entertainment movie not meant to garner any deep thoughts.

2. You'd have to suspend disbelief a hell of a lot more
than I can to take it straight.

5. Yes, that was...well, strange but ok (I liked the different tapes on
the packages.) And actually, I thought it wasn't a bad idea, for a baker and all (you know, all of those "designer" type flours).

But I think I missed the underlying point somewhere...

4. I thought it was wonderfully creative
but not all that deep. I liked it.

6. I haven't seen it, but it seems like it is about our confusion between fiction and reality
How they affect each other. How we have to constantly deal with our perceptions of both - the cultually constructed and the non-cultural reality.

Just guessing.

7. Didn't think about it
I thought it would have been nigh on excellent, but I felt like something was missing. I don't know, I was really enjoying it until she decided to let him live.

I like the idea of having an author able to create something "real" but there was something missing.

8. "nigh on"? You must be Southern!
I am from Texas and we always used the expression "nigh onto" something. I haven'theard it since I left Texas in the early 60s.

To your point, however, I felt total confusion as to whether he was a character in her book or not or why or why it mattered and what the hell.

I just got frustrated with the reality it was trying to tell.

9. It wound up being very much
on the surface. He's a character in her book, she always kills off her characters, she finds a way to let him live. It's quite shallow.

There is a hint that he didn't really exist until she started writing about him, and THAT story, the one about what is real, what isn't, and how can we tell the difference, could have been very good.
