Does anyone here know anything about mobile DSL? |
|
I just ordered a sprint card for my laptop, can I expect the same service I get at my house?

2. I've got a Sprint broadband card and |
|
it really depends on the location. Recently, at a client site in CT, I would get extremely low bandwidth, so low that I could really utilize only one window (and that at a creeping speed). OTOH, at home, in NYC, I get just as good response as I do on my home wireless network. In fact, I'm using it now.
All in all, with a very few exceptions, I've used (and been satisfied with) the card at locations up and down the east coast and in the midwest. It's also a lot cheaper than paying a hotel $10/night to use their service.

5. Thanks for your input. |

I take it I can cancel my home DSL service? I am ignorant on this subject.

3. I thought about it, but... |
|
the one person I know who has it said that it was about as reliable as her cell phone, which meant dropped calls now and then, occasional interference, etc. She really needed it because she needed a mobile connection. She had a permanent connection at home. I was considering it as my only connection, and she talked me out of it.
I think it has potential to be an excellent alternative, but it is still relatively new and could use some improvement.

9. I don't think cable has anything to do with it. |
|
Cable is an always on connection, not a mobile connection like mobile wireless. If you have cable at home, and want mobile wireless for convenience when you're out and about with your laptop, I say go for it. I just wouldn't have it as my only connection... yet.

7. If you never have problems (or rarely) with your cell calls, then |
|
go for it. I think that would be a pretty accurate judge of how good the network is.

10. Do you know anyone with Sprint cellular around there? |
|
Ask them how dependable their service is, especially when driving around the region.

13. Actually I want it for when I am work. |
|
Owner refuses to get DSL and I can't stand dial-up. I don't need it for my job, I just want it for when I have nothing to do and am surfing the internet.

My Nokia can be a modem for my laptop, I just hook it up to it.
