Bring him home.
Edited on Sun Nov-26-06 07:13 PM by trof
I don't usually get into 'the spirit' until about 2 Scotch Old Fashioneds into Christmas (bah, humbug) eve.
That's my holiday drink.:-)

But last evening Miz t. dragged my reluctant ass out to hear The Coastal Chorale's Christmas performance.

And something happened that got my waterworks going.
A not very good tenor sang "Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables.
I've never heard Les Mis. Don't know a thing about it. Googled the song lyrics when I got home.

God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there

He is young
He's afraid
Let him rest
Heaven blessed.
Bring him home

Well folks, the quality of the messenger didn't matter a bit.
I said "not very good tenor", although now I wonder if the quaver and breaks in his voice were for a personal reason.
I'd guess he was in his 60s.
But anyway, it was the message.
BRING THEM HOME.

In this super red county in a red state, the audience heard and understood the message.
5 by 5.
LOUD and clear.
Standing ovation.

Afterwards I spoke to the chorale director.
"I just wanted you to know that I got the message."
He gave me a somewhat sheepish smile.
"Well, we tried to be a bit subtle."

He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
The summers die
One by one
How soon they fly
On and on
And I am old
And will be gone.

Bring him peace
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy

You can take
You can give
Let him be
Let him live
If I die, let me die
Let him live
Bring him home

2. Thanks. I was floored.
The rest of the program was Christmas songs.
Duh?
I really admire them for doing that.

6. I would have cried, too
I kept wondering on Thanksgiving how many chairs around the country's dinner tables were empty this year, and how many hearts were broken as a result.

9. Just do it, if you can.
When the guy got the first few bars out I was wondering how this was a Christmas song.
I didn't see any kind of connection.
And then it hit me that it WASN'T.
Like. A. Ton. Of. Bricks.
