Chili and Cornbread tonight...mmmm
My good chili, made with lots of beef, a scattering of pinto beans, chili powder, chili peppers, and beer. Plus good sweet cornbread, piping hot and smothered in butter. Absolutely perfect for a cold November night. :)

What did you have for dinner?

13. I would *totally* invite you, except
(1) The chili is almost gone, and the cornbread was finally demolished a half-hour ago
(2) You live like a brazillion miles away from me

I love homemade chili too, but I am SOOOO picky about it. I loathe kidney beans--I only use pinto beans, and never more than a cup or so of those. I like my chili to have lots of meat, lots of spice, and very little beans.

11. The chili was the second big meal I did today, actually.
For breakfast I made homemade sausage gravy and from-scratch buttermilk biscuits. My family demolished it in less than 10 minutes--no exaggeration. I had to be innovative with the biscuits--we were out of store-bought buttermilk, so I mixed 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice into a cup and a half of milk and added a little salt. Voila! Homemade buttermilk.

Tip about biscuit-making: after you knead the dough, but before you roll it out and cut the biscuits--chill it in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes. Doing that always makes my biscuits rise higher and better, with a lovely texture and density. :)
