Quick photoshop help - flipping a single layer?

I can flip the whole thing, but I can't seem to figure out how to flip one layer...

1. Remove it into its own file, flip it, then place it back as a layer

2. Select the layer you want to flip

turn off the visibility of the other layers and flip to your heart's content. For some reason, if it can't be seen, it won't be acted upon.

EDIT ====> Transform

It gives you tons of options.. Or pick Free Transform.
