My cat, who had kittens eight weeks ago, is now attacking my spayed male. |
|
What's worse, her sister is joining in these attacks.
The poor guy, who's only 4, is cowering and won't come out of the room.
He hasn't even gone near the kittens.
What the hell is going on?

3. Is she in heat again or about to be? |
|
Make sure to get her to the vet pronto if you don't want another crop of kitties, those mama kitties are amazingly good at sneaking out to get more buns in the oven.

Although last time they just rolled around the floor yowling.
Now, these two are just lurking to attack him on sight.

5. You still have the kittens, right? |
|
I think it's just that mom-defence thing happening. Go ahead and keep them separated until the babies are gone.

probably. I know that with big cats, at least with lions, the males will kill cubs that are not their own offspring. Maybe it's some instinct kicking in there that they are trying to ward off. Of course, your male is altered so he won't be doing that but they probably didn't get the memo.

9. Male cats do sometimes eat kittens... |
|
especially the kittens of other males. He may not have made any overtures about this yet, but the Mother and her Sister have a really strong maternal instincts that kick in to protect the young. Most likely, they "marked" the territory that he isn't supposed to cross, and he keeps on intruding, prompting the attacks. Its possible this territory extends to the entire house. The best thing to do is to keep them completely separate, if that is possible, like on opposite sides of the house, or, if you have a basement, let him stay down there for a few weeks.
