That means that I graduated Summa cum laude, but I did honours on top of the regular coursework.

At my school its called High Honors...i.e. the best you can get.

But I'm still not one of those high IQ mensa people...I'm just interested in intellectual stuff. Heh.

My focus was not my studies and while I'm perfectly capable of getting a 4.0, I didn't. Psych major: 3.6, Sociaology major: 3.8. Cum laude of some sort, surely, for the amt of alcohol and various mind-altering substances consumed.

Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 03:01 PM by ProfessorGAC
I had a B in a psych class. She got a C in (get this) Creative Storytelling. The teacher said she wasn't "creative enough". 33 A's and a C, she got. I got the B in pysch mostly because i didn't care enough. Kind of went through the motions.

ON Edit: I forgot about grad school! Duh! I got nothing but A's for all three graduate degrees. That comes from taking only one or two classes at a time, i would guess.

got Magna. At UCLA they go by the top 2.5% (I think) so Summa varies year to year. I had a 3.9 GPA and missed by .02% because I decided to stay an extra year and write an honors thesis. Previous year I could have had Summa for 3.8! Oh well, got top honors in English though. B.F.D. That'n $30,000 wortha debt'll getcha a job teachin' inglish!

65. uhhh,....
Fabulous grades in one degree, A.A.S. in Court Reporting, (that's the person that sits in front of the witness stand and bangs on a stenograph machine taking shorthand) made straught A's, graduated with 3.96 on a 4.0 scale(i think that's magna) and was the VERY FIRST graduate of my community college's court reporting degree program, ever.

I think they left my name out of the graduation program.

Facts that I heard while in school: 3 out of every 200 people who start court reporting school finish. One of those will actually have a career as a court reporter. I did. It's why I'm dingy now from dealing with lawyers.

Degree No. 2: B.A. fairly average, not what I should have majored in but had a C in my major (biology) and A's in liberal and fine arts. Came out with a 2.62 which was OK.

Degree No. 3: This one should get awards for underachievement in overachievement.

In law school if you make 3 F's you are automatically thrown out. This causes a lot of pressure because it's 90 semester hours, just like undergrad. Only about five times harder. I thought I was a damn genius till I got to law school -- and this was after I had been a legal secretary and court reporter for years, literally I grew up in a law office reading new cases!!!

Also if your average falls below 70 you flunk out. Well, I slid thru on a 70.4.
This made me Number 101 out of a class of 102 in GPA rankings. I wish I could have found #102 and shaken his/her hand.

However, there was the extenuating circumstance that I was working full time at the courthouse, as a reporter and cranking out transcripts and going to night school for five years. I've seen more trials than a lot of judges have from my reporting job that I ran off screaming from, some years ago.

But, hey, I do have that Juris Doctor. This must be an amazing combination of something or other. It is large and would make a very impressive placemat. Also with a Paper Doctor (Ph.D. or similar) and a dollar you can get a cup of coffee, but you can't necessarily get a job or get respect.
