Today, when Britney Spears displays her private parts to the paparazzi, the world points and laughs.

Spears is the latest star to give people a glimpse of what's usually covered up, a trend that asks the question: What value, if any, does culture place on modesty today?

On Nov. 22, cameras caught Spears, the recently separated pop star and mother of two, in a leopard-print minidress so short it revealed her underwear.


Two days later, Spears was photographed getting out of a car in a hiked-up miniskirt. This time, her underwear was nowhere to be found.


According to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, Spears' up-skirt shots are no mistake — they're a classic cry for attention.

There were thumbnails to somethng like 16 pics. Each had the naughty parts blurred. I opened up and looked at only one images, briefly, and then closed the browser window. It's no different than when I start googling images with 'safesearch' turned off. Well, there is one minor difference - the images google pulls up feature folks with no clothing on whatsoever.

The issue is context and public decorum, of which both genders should be equally accountable for. Our media's problem is having a double standard against women and that sure as hell is not fair.

The media has also flaunted Daniel Craig's midsection. Daniel Craig goaded the media (and us) when saying he would do a nude beach shot in "Casino Royale" (ultimately, he wore the trunks and the scene cut just before one could see the bulging outline... which does make me aware of the double standard our media ultimately projects.)

And, for the record, I would be freaked out if I saw anybody nude in the grocery store or anywhere else that's public. Female or male, it would make no difference. I get annoyed when people grope each other in public. I sided with the airline that stopped the couple groping on the flight because it bothered other people. I don't even go to strip clubs, regardless of gender and I've been to both. Surprisingly, I am fairly prudish and get bothered when one of them approaches me. Again, regardless of gender. Is it wrong for me to have equal, albeit prude, standards about what people do in public? I'll be honest, I have never felt the sexism thing. I was raised by an astonishingly progressive pair of 'rents and I have always felt that I was as good as or better than any man, including my bros and my husband.

I DO know that sexism exists, and having two daughters, I am trying to raise them the way my parents raised me. So far, so good.

That's great that you're personally happy with your body - if you don't feel inadequate if you don't dye your hair, pluck your eyebrows, or put on makeup, or feel like your breasts are too big/too small/too saggy, that your gut isn't too soft or your butt isn't too big or too flat or has too much cellulite or that you need to shave some percentage of your body in order to be attractive, or don't generally need to lose weight - if you're good with all that, that's great. We all should be.

However, we all know that's not the case for the majority of women in the US. And we all know the unhealthy cycles that can trigger in women, ranging from dieting to overeating to purging to unnecessary and risky surgeries, and so forth. People who help send the message that women's bodies are disgusting and hideous are actively harming women.

The pepperonizi or whatever they call themselves have been making money off of misfortune, genuine or contrived, for decades. They know what brings in the money, and it's money that's the only thing the media cares about.

I have always felt very sorry for this girl. She was raised by a horrible stage mother, thrust into the spotlight at such a young age- she had no idea what she was getting into. She doesn't have a clue about how to behave in general, nor does she seem to have any self respect. That is tragic, not disgusting. Her behavior over the years, including that marriage, set off bells of alarm in my head that this woman was abused, horribly abused, as a child.

She doesn't have the tools or a true friend around her to give her advice or get her help.

I think the chances of a person committing abuse (of any kind) increases if they were themselves exposed to abuse. It takes self awareness and a realization of the abuse to stop the cycle from continuing, IMO.

Britney has been paraded on stage since she was an infant.
