Pictures from the Bat Cave.. Well, OK the Bat Mine...
Went to my sister's house in Big Bear for Thanksgiving. My bro-in-law took us (Alison and her kids) on a little tour while the bird roasted. I had been in this short mine tunnel during the summer and no bats roost in it during warm weather. Winter time the bats do inhabit the cave. There were two different species that day. The bats were so out of it you could gently pet them without disturbing their rest. The second picture is of Troy (Ali's 12yo son) petting one of the bats. The fur is very soft and seems utterly smooth if petted from front to back

What cool pictures! And how tiny the bats are! Somehow I always envisioned them to be bigger...
