No, the "talking sandwiches" thing seemed to start in the Eighties. They have faces just like the pic in the OP, and big bulbous eyes on top with a toothpick and olive. (Television sandwiches must always have a toothpick and olive on top, like a martini. It's a rule.) You usually see them on the Guy Smiley game show takeoff sketches. Wow. I'm like this Sesame nerd.
