Man Arrested For Threatening Girlfriend With Samurai Sword

PALM BAY, Fla. -- A Palm Bay man is charged with threatening his girlfriend with a samurai sword and choking her.

Police said Ivan Mendez and the 19-year-old woman were arguing when Mendez pulled the sword from a sheath and raised it up to strike her Monday.

The man apparently put the sword away and made the woman stay in the home for the remainder of the day.

Reports said the woman had bruising on her neck and thigh.

Mendez is charged with battery and aggravated assault.
