If you've gotten your dream job and had a "perfect" cover letter you believe helped, please share it with me. (PM is fine)
I'm applying for a position with a newly-elected state official and this letter has GOT to get me noticed. And since I'm an accountant and not a writer, this is a tough one for me.
Thanks!
:)

1. I could use the help too |

while I think my resume is nice, I'm sucking at the cover letter. I'll be looking for an admin/marketing position when I move to Orlando in February.

2. I've based my cover letters on the ad itself ... |
|
They were always short and 3 paragraphs; I let the resume do the talking, but that's me. The first paragraph would state the position and where I saw it. The second would highlight the points in the ad to my skills and the last would be a simple signoff.
For instance, if I was applying for the following job:
Job Description
Position available for a civil engineer/site designer at a Civil Engineering/Landscape Architecture firm that specializes in Office/Research Parks, Corporate Headquarters, Mixed-Use and Retail industries. Requirements:
Requires 3-5 years of experience relating to site design, drainage, utilities, grading and layout. AutoCAD and HydroCAD experience required. Pump station and water system experience preferred. P.E. not required.
I would write something like (doing this from memory at work):
I am writing to about your ad the Fayetteville Nosepicker Gazette for a Civil Engineer. I am interested in the position and would like to request an interview.
I have the following experience: * Over 5 years experience with site design, drainage, utilities, grading and layout. * Experience with AutoCAD and HydroCAD * Knowledge of pump station and water systems
Attached is my resume and I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.
I had a couple more sentences in it, but you get the idea. Good luck.

I'm not even sure what positions she's filling. This has to be a "I can be anything you need" cover letter. (Newly elected state official)

try to find out what the positions are available, if possible. At least then, if, I mean when you are called in, you'll know what to expect.
Good luck! :hi:

I've done that in the past. So many sites and examples. I just found out about her accepting resumes for staff positions (no descriptions available) and I have about an hour tonight to spend on it.
