Is epinions.com a legitimate site?

My mom had found a digital camera online through a place called wilddigital.com that was like $150 less than anywhere else. And, I'm not talking a big dollar camera, it was like everybody else had it for $400, while this place had it for $250.

the listing did not say "refurbished" or anything like that.

So, going by the old cliche of, "if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is" I found the epinions website where the above company got very mixed reviews. (see: http://www0.epinions.com/pr-Online_Stores_Services-Wild_Digital/display_~reviews )

So, I told my mom I'd be hesitant to order from them based on that...

... of epinions.com, and it is a legitimate review site. I prefer it over amazon.com for reviewing things because while there may not be as many reviews for a particular product, the reviews are oftentimes longer and more detailed. I've posted a few reviews there myself. I usually end up not buying things with mixed (or low, obviously) reviews.

2. I've written a couple of reviews for their travel pages

They have moderators who comment on your first couple of reviews, evaluating them for fairness, completeness, and backing up opinions with specific examples.

3. Be wary

When I was shopping for a digital camera, I read to be wary of outfits out of Brooklyn with their incredibly low prices. Once they get hold of you, they'd hard sell lots of extras that in the end cost you more than you'd pay at other places.

5. Take a look at Abes of Maine

Their prices are generally lower for cameras and TVs. I purchased a Nikon D70 online a couple of years ago and a lens a year ago. No fuss, no muss. I will be looking at a Panasonic plasma TV in the Spring and will buy from abesofmaine.com

Be aware grey market cameras. These are products distributed by unauthorized dealers, thus any warranty is not recognized by the manufacturer.
