Cheap internet provider advice, anyone?
I've had it with sbc/at&t. Just spent almost 3 hours on the phone trying to get a tech problem that they caused when upgrading my service worked out and nobody has a freakin' clue what it is or how to fix it.

Ideas/recommendations: I want DSL at least, but don't need super-turbo zoom zoom kinda service.

Gracias. :hi:

3. Which DSL providers serve your area?
And what services do they offer? What is your budget?

4. I have no idea, and cheap.
I'm at work on LAN all day so really only need a dsl-type service at home to check mail, an occassional You-Tube or Stewart type clip, and listen to radio streams since I don't have a stereo.

10. Sounds as though your next step is...
...Google, or some other research engine. There's http://dsl-providers.nettop20.com/ for a list of the major providers, whose websites should be able to tell you, by ZIP Code, whether or not they can serve you.

9. I did a Google search
If you are where your profile says you are, it looks like you may have Bright House available, which is related to Road Runner. Maybe this list will help?

11. DSL is still crap
it is nothing more than a modem on steriods. You need to get a cable provider like roadrunner. They have a roadrunner lite that is faster than any DSL.

I had DSL through AT&T for years and it was awful. It would die for hours at a time and when it did work it was nothing to write home about. Every time it would rain the line would go dead. Haven't had any problems since changing over to RR.

17. Yeah but it's crap that's in my price range.
RR is owned I believe by Time Warner and Comcast has a deathgrip on this part of Indy. :(

19. I had the same experience with DSL. It worked whenever it
felt like it. Switched to cable internet service, and have had no problems. DSL really sucked now that I think back on it. The tech service was pathetic.

20. Yeah, that's what I thought
when it came time to ask a question you couldn't get a human being. It was so intermittant that I finally gave up and got everything on cable. Now my phone, TV and internet are all with the same company and it costs me less. I just wish I could get rid of this damn cell phone.

15. If I told you I'd have to kill you.
 Seriously, not alot more than stream music, c-span, check emails and some shopping (amazon, etc). I also have remote access to my company computer so they can make me work on weekends - which wouldn't hurt me to give up, by the way. ;)
