Poll question: Where did you meet your present/most recent SO?
Just something I've been thinking about lately as I inch back into the world of dating. My last two SO's I met:

On a 3 day train ride. (we were together for 6 years)

A long time friend of mine. (we have since amicably returned to being friends)

So how about you?

10. Heh, nope.
He wasn't drinking at the time, got dragged there by one of his friends. I got there with my two (female) neighbors via two runs with as a passenger on the back of a motorcycle. He kindly gave me a ride home after I woke up and staggered out of the bathroom. Earlier I had hit on him as he was the only guy there with long hair (early 80's).

Good times. Glad I made it through them!

9. At a party.
We were both friends with a guy named Frank- him for eleven years, me for nine. Frank never thought of putting us in the same room before inviting us to the same party. I had recently broken up with someone else and really didn't want to go to the party. I made the snide remark "Oh, and I bet I'll meet my future husband here." :eyes: Mr. kt had spent the day in Mexico, helping to build a school. He drove all the way to Los Angeles because Frank invited him (Frank is one of those kind of people who'll do anything for a friend, so when Frank asks something, you can't say no.)

Three months later, we were buying the rings and nineteen months later...

14. I used to model for art classes for years....
one day almost 8 years ago I worked in my wife's class and we both fell for each other instantly.

And before anyone asks, she was the only person I ever dated or whatever that I met that way. As a painter myself, i always took the job very professionally and seriously and did not expect to meet someone that way.

And also before anyone asks, I was nude. Which made for an embarrassing moment when I first met her parents and they asked how we met. We tried to mumble through "at school" and leave it at that. Her dad completely jokingly said "let me guess, she was drawing you naked" and we both turned beet red. Silence ensued for a bit...

21. Didn't know that Match.com was that old.
The Web didn't really exist, it was Usenet when I got on. 1994. Mosaic had launched the first browser, I didn't know about it for awhile.

We met on a news group, there were no dating sites, which is why I choose "other" in the poll. We met in person in early '95, we are still together, and married.

30. over 11yrs ago
at freshman orientation at my university. My wife, was the student body president, and she was onstage doing her speech on staying and school and all that jazz. Thats my first memory of my wife...about a week later, her and some other faculty were doing a security traning program at my dorm, and I helped them put up chairs/tables and what not. We shared some mutual friends, and at the time, she had a thing for me, but I was oblivious, and she was to shy to pursue anything...

Fast forward to Feb of 2003, I'm back in college again, and she still had ties to the university, and she, with her parents came up to the uni for a visit, and she was shocked to see that I was back at school...and we still had our shared mutual friends, and those friends hooked us up on a blind date of sorts...and we got married on the 8th of May, 2004....

41. Oktoberain and I met in a chatroom...
We met in a BeSeen chatroom called "Joe's All Nite Diner" in February of 1999...
We talked through ICQ for hours each day for months.

In late June '99, she came from VA to NY for a visit.
She moved in with me on the following July 4th.

We've been together now for 7 1/2 years, and have a 6 1/2 yr old son, on whom we both brag entirely too much. When i'm ready for grad school (i'm 40, and working on my BA in PoliSci), we may well move to Massachusetts, or Ontario, so we can 'make it legal', as the vernacular goes.

Many things that have happened in my life are too weird, coincidental, or implausible to be believed. And since I don't want to build a reputation as being a complete bull shitter, you will have to be content to know that it was an out of the ordinary experience.

51. My husband and I first met in the fifth grade.
In the 8th grade he was my boyfriend. We went to the zoo together and to a movie or two. Then we attended different high schools and lost touch. I married and had two kids, then divorced. We met again at a 20-year reunion of our 8th grade class and started dating. (He had never married.) We dated for about a year and broke up just because we lived about 60 miles from each other. Then in June of 1999 he called me. He was moving and while packing up his stuff found something with my name on it. He had to track me down, as I had moved by then to another town. I invited him to come to see me for the 4th of July, and 20 minutes after he walked in the door he proposed. We were married in January of 2000. Thanks for posting this poll. I love to tell people about how I married my childhood sweetheart (but took 40 years to do it!)
