7. Alistair Sim was in the second "talking" version
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 07:07 PM by cmkramer
The first was with Reginald Owen in 1938 or 1939. Useless Trivia: June Lockhart of Lassie's Mom fame was in the movie with her parents who played the Cratchits. She played one of the Cratchit daughters.

I love all the Christmas Carol movies, but my absolute favorite is the one starring Mr. Magoo. The guy who does the TV reviews for THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS did a column a few years back which mentioned that it was going to be shown for the first time in many years and I e-mailed him to thank him because I wouldn't have known about it. Anyway, he e-mailed me back and said he got a lot of very posiitive responses so I guess I'm not the only one who remembered it.

17. There is one classic movie I've been looking for forever
Classic, meaning old. Not particularly popular. About a young girl growing up in NYC. It may have been called Junior Miss or something similiar. I don't know why exactly I liked it, but it stuck with me. She had an older sister and an uncle just out of "rehab" though I think they called it something else. They went skating in Rockerfeller Center. Any help would be appreciated. I haven't seen it in years.

21. Still love the original "Miracle on 34th Street"
Loved it the first time I saw it nearly 40 years ago and haven't seen anything measure up to it since.
"Bells of St. Mary's" and "Christmas Story" and the first "the Santa Clause" also very good.

Edited on Fri Dec-01-06 12:24 AM by Drum
but unfortunately there are many many Christmas movies I haven't seen, so I cannot say with much authority....

Edit to add: upthread was reminded of Nat' Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (the Griswold family, right?) and as a little tyke I did enjoy the animated ones, both cartoon and the stop-action ("Rudolph" et al) type.

Additionally, I nominate the Eddie Murphy / Dan Ackroyd movie "Trading Places." Much of it centers around Christmastime.

24. Mine would be in no particular order:
A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim
It's A Wonderful Life
A Christmas Story
White Christmas
Love, Actually

BTW, when is NBC doing their annual airing of It's A Wonderful Life? I'm hoping they show it before December 15th. Mr. Wonderful and myself are leaving for Ireland that night and I don't think this movie will be shown in the "ould country"...

26. It's not a Christmas movie per se....
But I have to choose "The Lion in Winter". The story takes place during Christmas in 1183. It's the perfect antidote to the syrupy, gooey Christmas movies out there.

28. Bad Santa
Favorite quotes -

Kid: Your beard's not real.
Willie: No Shit!It was real, but I got sick and all the hair fell out.
Kid: How come?
Willie: I loved a woman who wasn't clean.
Kid: Mrs. Santa?
Willie: No it was her sister.

Willie: It's Christmas and the kid's gettin' his fuckin' present.

Marcus: If I call you next December, IF I call you next December, you're gonna be so happy to hear from me, you're gonna do a goddamn back flip. You're gonna put that Santa hat on so fast that you're gonna get fucking hat-burn.

I was a little kid in the 50s living in the midwest. This movie really captures the period and is a nostalgic treat for me.

42. Scrooge (the musical) w/ Albert Finney & Alec Guinnes
Scrooge (the musical) w/ Albert Finney.

Oh, man... I love that one. The songs are great and Albert Finney is fantastic in the role. O-kay, the little kid grates on me a bit, but Scrooge getting drunk on the Milk of Kindness and then singing, "I Like Life" more than makes up for it!

Merry Christmas, everyone!
